In Pirates of the Caribbean, he played the straight laced Will Turner.

But when it comes to indulging his two-year-old son, Orlando Bloom is more than happy to take on the role of pirate for an impromptu game.

The 36-year-old Kingdom of Heaven star took on Jake The Pirate fan Flynn as they wielded toy swords in New York on Thursday.

The toddler is often times seen out and about with his mother Miranda Kerr, 30, and Orlando, carrying his favorite toy.

In fact, last week, Flynn carried it with him to see his dad take the stage as Romeo in the Broadway production of Romeo and Juliet.

Orlando's Broadway run is slated to end on December 8.

But fans can see him reprise the role of Legolas on the big screen with the second installment of the Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Meanwhile, since announcing her split from Orlando in October, Miranda has been linked with billionaire James Packer, a long-time friend of the Australian model.

Packer – whose own marriage to Erica Baxer ended several months ago – reportedly gave Miranda business advice when she launched a range of beauty products several years ago.

According to the Daily Telegraph: '(Packer) told friends business pressures caused the breakdown of his second marriage, is expected to spend Christmas in the US with his children, who now live in Los Angeles with their mother. Kerr, by coincidence, also calls the US home.'

In the meantime, Orlando has been romantically linked with close friend Liv Tyler.

The pair, who became friends while filming The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, reportedly took an otherwise platonic relationship to the next level during a night out in New York.

Regarding their split, Miranda and Orlando insisted they would always consider each other 'family' and there were no hard feelings.

Miranda said: 'We love each other as family, forever.'
