Hump day links
   June 5, 2013 (12:09 AM) by Matt

It is Wednesday and here are some links.

Steven Goff gives us some notes on the USMNT, including that it looks like Brek Shea probably won’t join the team for the remaining games.  Mr. Soccer Insider also gives us a few good stories about his previous trips down to Jamaica to cover the US.

If you haven’t already, enter our guess the US-Jamaica score contest.  We are giving away one free Sacha Kljestan mustache shirt and who doesn’t want one of those?!

Fabian Johnson was taken out at halftime on Sunday for some hamstring tightness, but it looks like it was just a precaution and he should be ready come Friday.

The team headed down to Jamaica a couple days early and US Soccer gives us some quotes from Klinsmann on his reasoning.

Roger Bennett has a good interview with Gene Olaff, the oldest former United States international alive today.  The goalkeeper missed out on the 1950 World Cup because his police superiors denied his request for time off.

A lot of news to report about our Yanks down in Mexico.  Herculez Gomez is on the move again and is now headed to Club Tijuana.  How can any American fan not like this team?  That gives the Xolos eight different Mexican-Americans around the first team.  Also, Tijuana is basically everything that Chivas USA wanted to be when they first joined MLS.

DaMarcus Beasley has been placed on Puebla’s transfer list.  If he is going to another Mexican club, the deal has to be completed before the transfer deadline ends at midnight tonight.

And it appears that Edgar Castillo has caught the eye of some Brazilian teams after his play in Copa Libertadores.  I hope he stays at Tijuana as I like the fact that it has so many Americans and I don’t fully get all the various competitions in Brazil.  It makes it a lot easier to follow (I am looking at you, Freddy).

Tim Howard’s new manager at Everton next season will likely be Roberto Martinez.  It is pretty crazy that four of the top six teams from the Premier League will have new managers in 2013-14.

Congrats to Japan on becoming the first team to qualify for the World Cup.

Here is a post-game interview with Alejandro Bedoya from over the weekend.

The US U-20 team wraps up the Toulon Tournament with a game against South Korea today at 11 AM Eastern.  The game will be shown live on beIN SPORT.  US Soccer also gives us a video on defender Eric Miller.

Samuel Petrone hasn’t played with Mjällby this season due to a knee injury and a Mjällby blog is reporting that he has returned to the US to rehab.

Brian Sciaretta has learned that US U-17 players Shaquell Moore and Ahinga Seleman are currently in Germany on some trials with Hoffenheim and now Werder Bremen.

MLS youth academy product Arie Ammann has signed with Watford’s youth academy.  The goalkeeper’s father, Mike Ammann, is one of the first American goalies to play in England.

And finally, I was unwinding after a long day at work and flipped by TMZ on my TV only to see Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley getting asked a question by some paparazzi.  And here is photographic proof of Michael Bradley smiling on TMZ.  My thoughts on that.  Seriously, the world might end.
