Stoke City manager Mark Hughes was a relieved man after discarded striker Oussama Assaidi came off the bench to score a spectacular last-minute winner to defeat Chelsea 3-2 at the Britannia Stadium.

Assaidi, a Morocco international on loan from Liverpool, was dropped after the midweek goalless draw with Cardiff City and Hughes said: ‘I disappointed him because I took him out of the team.

'But I did say to him before the game that he had to be ready to come on and make an impact.’

Assaidi took his instructions literally. He had been on the pitch for barely six minutes when he took possession of the ball on the left with the clock running down.

He darted inside Branislav Ivanovic before unleashing a right-foot shot past Petr Cech to give Stoke their first league win over Chelsea in 38 years.
