Major General Niaz Muhammad Khan Khattak Chief Military Observer (CMO)


Major General Niaz Muhammad Khan Khattak was born in 1954 and comes from the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan. He joined the Pakistan Army in 1973 and was commissioned in an Infantry Battalion. He has served in various command, staff, and instructional assignments. As a Lieutenant Colonel he commanded two Infantry Battalions and served as an operations staff officer in the Military Operations Directorate in Army HQs. As a Brigadier General he commanded an Infantry Brigade, been a Director in the Military Operations Directorate, Chief of Staff in a Corps HQ, and Deputy Military Secretary in Army HQs.

Prior to joining UNOMIG in 2005, he commanded an Infantry Division in the Pakistan Army. His peace-keeping experience was in 1995 as a Colonel when he was commander of the Pakistan Contingent and commander of a military zone in United Nations Mission in Haiti (UNMIH).

He is a graduate of the Command and Staff College, Quetta, and has completed the Armed Forces War Course from the National Defence College, Islamabad. He holds a B.S. (Honours) in War Studies, M.S. (War Studies) from Quaid E Azam University, Islamabad, and M.A. (War Studies) from Kings College, University of London.

He has traveled widely, attended a number of military courses abroad, and lectured in various national and international peace-keeping seminars.
