When Carrie Underwood gets a bad review she doesn't get mad, she gets religious.

The country music star lashed out on Twitter on Friday after a deluge of criticism following her performance in the remake of Sound Of Music.

The American Idol winner was less impressed with the response to the live television event, Sound Of Music Live!, than viewers were of her acting ability.

On Saturday, the Jesus Take The Wheel singer made it clear she was hurt on Twitter.

The 30-year-old tweeted: 'Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus.'

Trying to turn the other cheek, like the son of the big man upstairs, Carrie said she planned to pray for those who spoke against her.

'They will be in my prayers tonight... 1 Peter 2:1-25.'

On Thursday, Carrie starred as everyone's favourite babysitter Maria Von Trapp - a character originally played by Julie Andrews in the 1965 movie.

Many critics did praise the country singer for her vocal ability in the three-hour live show aired on NBC on December 5, but panned her acting skills.

Adding her voice of disapproval was original star Kym Karath, who played young Gretl Von Trapp.

Taking to Twitter while watching the show, the actress said: 'Must admit some scenes are actually painful to watch.'

'Mystified & disappointed so far by SOM special. So far only happy with Stephen Moyer.

'Love Carrie Underwood but this role is just not right for her.  She is lovely her voice is beautiful but acting is wrong.'

On Friday, the actress tried to soften the blow of her original response saying, 'To be clear I love Carrie Underwood. Just not as Maria. She was brave to take it on. And this doesn't lessen my respect for her talent.'

It's not being mean. She cannot act. Plain and simple. Some people, like Julie Andrews, are doubly blessed and can sing and act, but Carrie cannot. Yes, she can sing, but SOM was not the right vocal vehicle for her either. She's absolutely courageous for undertaking such a role, but it was not for her.

Critics may need Jesus, but Carrie still needs acting lessons.

I like Carrie Underwood just fine, but who in the world thought it would be a good idea for her to do Sound of Music? She doesn't have the vocal quality or experience for such a role. People aren't being mean, they're being honest. She was a bad choice for the live rendition, plain and simple. She did the best she could, but this is the SOUND OF MUSIC. People were expecting so much better, and so, unfortunately for her, that was going to mean bad reviews.

I don't have an opinion about this one, nor do I have a desire to see it. But all this talk about the new The Sound of Music sure does stir up in me a desire to see the old one again! Such a great movie.

It wasn't a remake, it was a live rendition.

If she would rethink taking the role in this show, she would see that the Sound Of Music is the wrong venue for her and her voice. Because people did not care for the remake has nothing to do with being mean. Being mean does no make you have a need to get close to Jesus. Everyone has opinions about everything. She is just annoyed that so many people really didn't like the remake. Julie Andrews she is not nor should she be. She needs to move on and make a better choice with her musical talents. Any musical that stands the test of time will be a failure when a remake is done.

Remind me not to invite Kym Karath to the local high school's production of "the Sound of Music." I don't want her tweeting about how painful it is to watch.

The real Maria von Trapp was a short, dumpy and totally unglamorous woman. She was not a bottle blonde with a ton of makeup on. Oh, she braided her hair, that makes her look so RUSTIC. I am not a country fan but I will always acknowledge that Carrie does have a great voice. But being in a stage musical requires acting ability as well which she simply does not have. That isn't being "mean" or "bullying." It's called "telling the truth."

My truth is that Maria von Trapp looked just like Julie Andrews. (:o]
