Queen of the swingers! Natalie Gumede wins Swingathon despite failing to impress with Paso Doble on Strictly Come Dancing

She usually finds herself with nothing but high scores when she performs each week on Strictly Come Dancing.

But on Saturday evening Natalia Gumede had a very mixed night as she received negative comments from Craig Revel-Horwood following her Paso Doble, only to go on a win the Swingathon not long after.

The Coronation Street star was no doubt determined to prove her worth as a dancer following the comments, making sure she and partner Artem Chigvintsev were the last on the dancefloor and received those sought after extra six points.

Things went slightly awry for Natalie and Artem when they performed the Paso Doble to El Gato Montes by Ramon Cortez Pasodoble Orchestra,  as Natalie suffered a slight slip which didn’t go unnoticed by the judges.

Trying to be reassuring Bruno told them: 'It was really the undiluted essence of classic Spain. It was fantastic so don't beat yourself up.'

Craig added: 'I agree with Bruno, it was classy. It was almost too slick. The reason you slipped is because you put too much weight on your leg.'

Darcey also remained upbeat: 'It was glorious. I'm being picky - if we could just have a stronger story. But beautiful work.’

Len, however wasn't quite so pleased with the performance: 'I liked the intensity, passion and focus. I never thought you were going to touch it. You were like germ-a-phobes. It was too much faffing about at the beginning. For me you are in jeopardy after that dance.'

Luckily the scores were still high as Craig gave them nine, as did Darcy and Bruno while Len gave an eight, which received boos from the audience.

At the end of all their normal performances all of the contestants took to the floor for the Swingathon.

No rules are involved in this section of the competition, as the judges got the chance to see them compete side by side for the first time.

The first couple to leave the floor was Susanna and Kevin, followed by Ashley and Ola.

Next off was Abbey and Aljaz, then Sophie and Brendon and Patrick and Anja – leaving Natalie and Artem as the winners giving them six extra points.

Speaking about their win Bruno said: ‘Stylistically they were spot on. They maintained it beautifully throughout.’

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Sunday on BBC1.

Natalie is beyond irritating but I can't put my finger on just one reason. And it has nothing to do with her character in Corrie as others have suggested because I don't watch it!

Swing-a-thon was pointless, except to boost Natalie up the leader board.I thought the whole point of Stritctly was to take NON-dancers and turn them into dancers, not take dancers and give their egos a boost.I have watched Strictly from the first series, but this year the flagrant manipulation of scores to get the most televiual copetitors to the final is shameful. Buck your ideas up BBC? You are killing this show.

From the tidal wave of hateful comments about her it would be understandable if Natalie did not want to continue to dance in SCD. After all it would seem she has no chance of winning since SCD is a popularity contest. However she has a far stronger character and is a far better person than all these haters on here and elsewhere. They need to look at themselves in the mirror and see how nasty they have been. Any decent person would post an apology to her.

I can't take Artem seriously. He is certainly not good looking and simply dances to his own tune rather than deliver the requirements of the dance. I think Brendan has been the best and most authentic dancer this season. He has come up with some great choreography whereas Artem is always wanting to tell a story. It's a dance, Artem, not a flippin' book. Can't warm to Natalie either. She clearly had done dancing before.

I actually think the judges are harsher on Natalie than everyone else. Lens criticism was ridiculous last night. Their favourites are Abby and Patrick. Ashley over criticised too. He was fab last night and was second best in the group dance IMO

perhaps attempted is deliberately not putting in enough dance steps and avoiding being in hold???

She IS better than Abby, better, in fact, than all the female contestants because she is real and has no prior years of dance experience, a factor supposedly the nucleus of this show. The "judges" treat Sophie as if she were this inferior nobody, to be quickly and very poorly critiqued and then dismissed. If anyone with a modicum of dancing intellect were asked to watch this show and assess the dance routines, I suspect that Sophie and Brendan would be on top for the majority of them. It is a bloody disgrace, but it is only what I've come to expect. As so many of you have stated here, the winner was chosen from day one, and perception is a big part of this show - so the judges will fawn and gush over certain contestants in an effort to convince viewers that so and so should receive the most votes. I don't believe they even watch Sophie's routines. How can they when their comments are so unrelated to what is happening on the dance floor? Shame! Shame! Shame!
