Pretty in plaid: Kourtney Kardashian takes cute one-year-old daughter Penelope to a party in Newport Beach

She may be something of a fashion icon, but reality star, Kourtney Kardashian may have a little bit of a rival on her hands.

Her one-year-old daughter Penelope Disick was spotted looking cute and trendy as she headed to a party in Newport Beach in California on Sunday in her mother's arms.

She wore a pair of soldier style trousers which were black and red and had a gold military detail on the leg.

Soldier soldier: Penelope gave her mum a run for her money in the fashion stakes in her cute military themed trousers

She also wore a white T-shirt top and cute Mary Jane pumps. A sleepy-looking Penelope was rocking bed-head hair, too, which added to her cute appearance.

Her mother carried a pink dummy which she popped into her mouth to settle her as she sat in the car. Penelope also gave waiting photographers a fierce little glare as she hugged her mother.

34-year-old Kourtney also looked chic in a black and white checked shirt, which she teamed with black jeans and black velvet slipper shoes. She also wore aviator sunglasses.

She's a vision: Kourtney looked as if she had just stepped out of the pages of a magazine

The lover of all things designer didn't let her standards slip when it came to the practical aspects of her outfit though and she also carried a black Prada nappy bag.

She told By Touriya website's that she carries things like water, snacks, Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm, her camera and The Honest Company wipes in the bag, amongst other things.

She also carried a cute little crown headband which was presumably a part of Penelope's fashionable party princess look.

Kourtney was recently named By Touriya website's December IT-woman and when asked about fashion, she said:

'I am rarely in a dress when I am with my kids. I love to get down and play. In fall of winter, I am all about skinny jeans or leggings with flat boots...flat shoes have become my best friend.

She added that her autumn and winter must-haves fashion pieces are: 'Something plaid, pencil skirts, flat boots, sunglasses with mirrored lenses.'

And while Kourtney looked as if she had stepped out of the pages of a fashion magazine on the trip, she seemed to let out a little yawn as she carried her daughter in her arms.

The Fashion Icon?? LMAO..OK DM, that is reaching in my opinion. Kourtney Kardashian is FAR from a fashion icon. I literally laughed out loud. Unless of course you're calling her a fashion icon because she dresses up to go shopping so she doesn't get thrown out of the shops. Kourt, is no fashion icon. I've certainly never aspired to dress like her, and never will. The very thought of anyone waking up in the morning saying, "God, I want to dress like Kourtney Kardashian today." is beyond hysterical. I'm curious if Penelope has ever been allowed to play with the immaculate conception North. Kanye is probably worried her face will make North cry. Kourt and Scott need to stop reproducing.

She is SUCH a different mother to Kim! Not only does she dress more appropriately for someone who is running around carrying her kids, but you can tell on the show that her children really are her priority. Kim on the other hand is all about herself and how she looks and where she is going that night without her baby. I would love to know what Kourtney thinks about Kim as a parent. Chalk and cheese.

Where are all of the "Penelope never smiles" comments as in the case of her cousin North? I've never seen Penelope Scotland Disick smile, and she certainly has a piercing facial expression to the paps! Lol.. Mason, on the other hand, is always jovial. On their show, I saw Pene walk which was cute. She's grown up so fast! I can just imagine her becoming a lawyer like her grandad..a very tough one! Lol.
