Liev Schrieber shows off his beach body as he takes a dip in the icy Pacific in tiny shorts... after kissing Naomi Watts on set of Pawn Sacrifice

He plays one of the most famous chess masters in history in his new film Pawn Sacrifice.

But Liev Schrieber appeared to be in more of a beach hunk mood as he went shirtless on set of the docudrama shooting in Santa Monica, California, on Tuesday.

The 46-year-old was spotted emerging from the sea in tiny swim trunks, confidently displaying his incredibly lean and muscular physique.

Earlier in the day he was seen taking a break from filming as Naomi Watts brought their sons Alexander Sasha and Samuel Kai for a visit.

Wearing a black turtle neck and grey suit, the actor looked dapper as he gave his partner of eight years an affectionate kiss before heading back to work.

During the family visit the A Walk On The Moon star chatted with his sons as 45-year-old Naomi wore a series of scarves and an army green shirt.

Completing the British-Australian actress' ensemble were blue jeans and sporty New Balance trainers.

Liev could be seen bringing cups filled with fruit from the crafts table to his boys, six-year-old Sasha and four-year-old Samuel, who both sported long sleeve shirts and joggers.

The 6ft3in actor portrays Russian chess champ Boris Spassky who battled with American Bobby Fischer during the Cold War.

Their rivalry was epic and symbolized for both countries the tensions between Russia and the U.S.

Spassky beat Fischer in every match except for their last in 1972, which was dubbed The Match Of The Century.

The two fought it out in 1966 in Santa Monica, where Boris beat Bobby by half a point in the event, which is presumably the reason for the production filming in the sunny California beachside city.

Tobey Maguire, 38, portrays Fischer in the historical film directed by Edward Zwick, who's previous films include civil war drama Glory and the over-the-top The Legends Of The Fall.

The film promises to document the Cold War rivalry between the tortured Fischer and his psychologically astute adversary Boris.

In the Match Of The Century Bobby made many irrational requests which Boris accommodated, including switching the venue for their third game to another room.

While it was Bobby's only victory over the Russian it had profound significance at the politically tense time.

Fischer is even said to have accepted the match after being urged by Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

The film is set for release sometime in 2014.

He is hot...but you can see he works hard to keep that body in shape. I think he would be rather heavy if he didn't.
