'Been too long': Foo Fighters share a photo of blood spattered guitar before they surprise 200 fans with pizza restaurant gig
|
They haven’t played a live gig for over a year but instead of making their comeback in an arena in front of thousands of fans, Foo Fighters surprised 200 diners at a pizza restaurant with a secret show this week.
The band teased they were ready to return to the stage by posting a photo from their rehearsals of a blood spattered guitar.
And it looks like the hard work paid off as diners at a California eatery were wowed by the surprise performance which lasted over two hours.
Going all out: Foo Fighters are busy rehearsing for their comeback gig in Mexico City this week, posting this photo of a blood spattered guitar from band practice alongside the caption: 'First practice. Been too long. Look out, Mexico...'
Foo Fighters hinted at the live comeback with a graphic image on their Facebook page, showing one of their guitars and picks smeared with blood.
The band captioned the striking photo with the teasing words: ‘First practice. Been too long. Look out, Mexico.’
While they were referring to what has been publicly billed as they live comeback in Mexico City on December 13, the band obviously felt they needed a warm up before the huge gig at the 55,000-capacity Foro Sol stadium.
Making a comeback: The Foo Fighters' last live gig was over a year ago but they warmed up for their Mexico City gig with a secret show in front of 200 lucky fans at a pizza restaurant on Monday
Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear gave diners a huge shock when they arrived at Rock & Roll Pizza in Moorpark, California on Monday night.
But the band weren’t there to tuck into a slice, instead they took to the stage at the 200 capacity venue and belted out a 23 song set of classic tracks, TMZ report.
While they didn’t debut any new tracks, fans were treated to over two hours of favourites including Learn to Fly and Arlandria.
Diners were already expecting an appearance from Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who was booked to play with his band Chevy Metal as part of a Christmas event.
Two decades at the top: The band, seen here at the 2011 NME Awards, are celebrating nearly 20 years together, since forming in the 90s
After paying just $10 for the gig though, the lucky punters were treated to the sight of Foo Fighters and Chevy Metal joining forces.
The group are set to jet to Mexico ahead of Friday night’s huge gig which will mark their first major performance together since the Global Festival event in New York in September 2012.
Earlier this year, the group's guitarist Chris Shiflett revealed that the band are planning to begin recording their new album early next year while Dave Grohl also recently confirmed that the follow-up to 2011's Wasting Light, has been written ahead of a 2014 release date.

Amazing, amazing stage show!!! Incredible energy when playing live! Love when they pick a classic rock song to jam to at random.
