She hit a personal low when she was rushed to rehab for treatment for drug and alcohol abuse back in 2010.

Now Demi Lovato has revealed that it was her love for her little sister that helped her overcome her demons, following an intervention by her family.

'My mom specifically said, ''You know, we're going to move back to Texas and you’re not going to be able to be around your little sister,''' Demi told Access Hollywood.

Demi's 11-year-old half-sister Madison De La Garza played Eva Longoria's daughter Juanita Solis for six years on Desperate Housewives and the two are very close.

The intervention which helped Demi clean up her act included her manager, lawyers and family - and it was then that her mother Dianna Hart issued the ultimatum.

Dianna joined Demi in the Access Hollywood interview and said she tried to help Demi by protecting young Madison.

'I had to set an example for Madison. ... I had to protect her and [Demi] knew that. So when I said, ''I'm moving back to Texas,'' she knew that I finally meant it that time,' Dianna said.

Faced with losing contact with her sister, 21-year-old Demi finally decided to act.

Demi also talked candidly in the same interview about her former cocaine abuse and mental health issues that contributed to an eating disorder and self-cutting.

The singer said her cocaine addiction was so severe that she used to smuggle it onto airplanes.

'I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I’d sneak to the bathroom and I’d do it,' Demi said.

That’s how difficult it got and that was even with somebody [with me], I had a sober companion, somebody who was watching me 24/7 and living with me [and] I was able to hide it from them as well,' she admitted.

She also opened up about her former alcohol abuse and recalled drinking in the morning from a bottle of Sprite filled with vodka while on her way to a sober living house.

Demi left rehab in 2011 and has resumed her singing career as well as taking a spot next to Simon Cowell on The X Factor.

Demi last month released a new book called Staying Strong: 365 Days A Year that is filled with the daily affirmations that help her stay clean and sober.

The child needs to lose some weight; not good for a little girl to be putting so much strain on her body. And... appropriate clothing/footwear might help.

Her little sister doesn't look like that any more, I think it was baby fat! Plus she does exercise, I don't know what you call it but you're hanging upside in ropes and stuff, very athletic if you ask me! I know I couldn't hold my own weight very long never mind do it upside down!

Ahh her little sister is cute! Nothing like the live you feel for a little sister, kinda like being a mum but with stronger friend/protector vibe!
