Fulham complete Dempsey transfer
Clint Dempsey
Dempsey becomes the third US international at Fulham
American midfielder Clint Dempsey has finalised his move to Fulham after being granted a work permit.

The 23-year-old joined the Cottagers from New England Revolution in a deal worth a reported £2m.

"We're pleased this opportunity worked out for Clint," Revolution head coach Steve Nicol told the club's website.

"We wish him nothing but the best as he heads to the Premiership. It's a great credit to him and the level of the MLS that Fulham pushed so hard to get him."

The Home Office granted Dempsey, who joins fellow Americans Brian McBride and Carlos Bocanegra at Fulham, a work permit despite the fact injury meant he failed to play in the requisite 75% of his country's matches in 2006.

Dempsey has 23 caps to his name but featured in only nine of the USA's 13 matches last year.

"It's great news that we have already secured our second signing this early in the transfer window," said Fulham boss Chris Coleman.

"I have been watching Clint for a while now and he is an aggressive, offensively minded player with a great deal of skill and aptitude.

It's been an ambition of mine to come to England and play in the Premiership

"He also has a great attitude towards the game which is very important to me when I sign a player.

"It may take a little time for Clint to get used to the Premiership, but when he does, I have no doubt that he will have an exciting impact for Fulham."

Dempsey was named the Major League's rookie of the year in 2004 and is now the most expensive US export to the Premiership.

'I'm real happy that everything has been sorted out regarding the work permit and I can't wait to get started training with the guys," he said.

"It's been an ambition of mine to come to England and play in the Premiership, so I'm excited that I've been given the opportunity to do that, and look forward to helping Fulham with their future campaigns."
