Far Rockaway - bar review
Big, brash and chock-full of bizarre artwork, this novel new addition to Curtain Road will be great for a lairy night out
The buzz: A big artsy bar and diner bang smack in the middle of hipster country, between old Street and Shoreditch High Street tubes
The deal: Far Rockaway launched during Frieze week, when the big art fairs come to town, and has walls covered in Americana-themed street art. It seems to be going for a sort of hipster-Wetherspoons vibe; colourful, cheap and cheerful and likely to capture passing trade.
Good for: A loud and lairy Friday night.
Order: The cocktails on draft are the Hot Bitch and the Pornstar, which our bartender took puerile delight in recommending. The Hot Bitch is adorned with a chilli and it burns — best saved for dares and friends you don’t like that much — but the Pornstar, made with passion fruit, vanilla vodka and topped off with bubbly, is a delight — and far more mellow than the name suggests.
By the way: A lot of the drinks come with the bizarre addition of a sugar cube, opt for yours without it. Also avoid the chips and pizza unless you like your food to taste freshly microwaved.
Find it: 97-113 Curtain Road, EC2, farrockaway.co.uk
