'He's a fat-faced fool who's not even funny!' Ron Burgundy insults Will Ferrell as he accepts International Achievement accolade at British Comedy Awards
|
His new movie, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is due out on December 18th, so Will Ferrell, 46, has been drumming up lots of publicity surrounding it's release.
On Thursday night, the funny man attended the British Comedy Awards and appeared as his anchorman character Ron Burgundy to collect the International Achievement award.
But he wasn't too happy with the event and jokingly told the audience: 'Tonight has been an absolute train wreck.'
Suits you! Ron Burgundy played by Will Ferrell came on to stage at the British Comedy Awards to rapturous applause on Thursday night
Wearing Ron's famous burgundy suit, wig and moustache, the character also complained about the Wembley's Fountain studio where the swanky bash was held.
He said: 'Located in some sort of circus barn. It's
been capped off by the presentation of this award to Will Ferrell. I am
no fan of Will Ferrell.
'He's a fat-faced fool who's not funny. And tragically he's not even British.'
Crocodile tears: At one point, the character had an faux emotional moment as he accepted his International Achievement award
It's all too much: Ron breaks down as he looks at his award (left) and then waves it in the air victoriously (right)
Not content, he joked through tears: 'I’d love to say how honoured and thrilled I am to be receiving this award.
'I'd love to say how honoured I am to be held in such high regard by the British comedy community but, at this juncture, I think it would be more prudent to say: no comment.'
Later, Will was spotted backstage where he was deep in conversation with funny man Eddie Izzard and he also posed on the red carpet with his award and a very bemused expression on his face.
What a cad! Ron won laughs when he called Will Ferrell a 'fat-faced fool' at the awards
X Factor judge, Nicole Scherzinger also posted two pictures of herself meeting the star to her Instagram account. In one, she placed her hands against his and wrote:
'You stay classy London! #RonBurgandy #Perm #iluvwillferrell' [sic].
She cosied up against him in the second snap and including an Anchorman quote alongside it.
'Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means ‘a whale’s vagina.’” — Ron Burgundy'
Dream couple? Nicole Scherzinger Tweeted a photo of the moment she met legendary Ron Burgundy and wrote 'You stay classy London! #RonBurgandy #Perm #iluvwillferrell' [sic]
She hearts him: The star appears to be a huge fan of the movie man
With the night given over to a predominantly male guest list, the smart black tuxes were in full effect courtesy of Johnny Vegas, Eddie Izzard and Charlie Higson, who all sported identical outfits.
But one person who didn't seem too impressed with Will's achievement was comedian Johnny Vegas who took a potshot at the Hollywood star.
He said: 'Tonight is not about slagging off the sponsors or giving an international award to someone just because he was here.'
Gossip time: The Anchorman star caught up with fellow comic actor Eddie Izzard
Will was already in the country as
the premiere for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues took place in
London's West End on Wednesday night.
The cast of Made In Chelsea and Olly Murs all paid homage to their favourite movie character by wearing retro suits and fake moustaches at the event.
The British Comedy awards aired on Channel 4 at 9:00pm.

Well, he is correct. Will Farrell is not funny. Neither is his character Burgundy. Can't wait for this movie to come and go so he stops popping up everywhere.
