    A previously unknown oil sketch by John Constable from the early 1820s has been discovered by staff at London's Victoria and Albert museum.

    The picture was found beneath a lining canvas of one of the artist's known works. The sketch will be put on show at the V&A this week.

    Thanks for all your comments today on BBC London's Facebook page about news that members of the RMT union are to vote on whether to take industrial action over job cuts at London Underground.

    Joanne Farrell said: "There are NO compulsory redundancies planned. This is just another opportunity for Bob Crow to act like a bully."

    But Claire Cobb wrote people have no clue what is happening at London Underground internally. She said: "We are not overpaid or lazy or privileged...all we want is to make sure the Tube remains well staffed, that staff are available when there is a problem and that the stations remain safely run."

    Kercher murder trial 1730:

    Italian prosecutors have asked for a 30-year prison sentence for former US student Amanda Knox in a retrial over the murder of her British housemate in 2007.

    Meredith Kercher, 21, from Coulsdon, south London, was found dead in a flat she shared in Perugia with Ms Knox, a fellow exchange student.

    A year after the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, the first residents have moved into new homes in the former athletes village.

    Charles Saatchi has accused his former wife Nigella Lawson of being "so off your heads on drugs" that she allowed their personal assistants to spend whatever they liked, a court has heard.

    Sisters Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo are set to go on trial at Isleworth Crown Court in west London accused of committing fraud while working as personal assistants to the couple.

    Winter deaths 1523:

    Excess winter mortality for 2012/13 in England and Wales was the lowest in London, according to the Office for National Statistics. The figures bucked the trend of the previous year when the highest excess winter death rates were observed in the capital.

    Overall there was a big rise in the number of winter deaths last year in England and Wales - a 29% increase on the previous winter.

    Bus driver attacked 1504:

    Police are appealing for information after a bus driver was assaulted by a passenger who refused to get off.

    The suspect

    It happened on Friday evening on a route 23 after it terminated at Regent Street in central London. The driver asked a man on the top-deck to leave but he became abusive and punched him in the face several times.

    Crossrail project 1424:

    Building work is continuing on Canary Wharf station for the Crossrail. The east London station will be one of the largest in the project.

    The trial of two men accused of murdering soldier Lee Rigby in Woolwich, south-east London, is to start in the next few days, the judge says.

    'Beds in sheds' 1343:

    Eleven adults have been found living in a three-bedroom semi-detached house in north-west London during a raid to tackle illegally rented out buildings.

    Harrow Council made the find as part of a "beds in sheds" raid. The tenants, a mixture of Polish and Indian men, paid £55 a week to live in the house.

    RMT General Secretary Bob Crow has told BBC London 94.9 that strike action is "inevitable" over London Underground's plans to close all ticket offices.

    Mr Crow said: "They gave us 90 days notice that they're going to start making people redundant and we've got to sit back there and take it. What are people going to join the trade union for if we ain't going to fight for them?"
