Was he or wasn't he? James Franco's latest video has the multihyphenate making a startling confession...or is it?

On Saturday, the actor-author-poet tweeted out a video of himself while lounging in bed.

Captioned 'Happy sat,' the video features a shirtless Franco making a bedside confession about his possibly late-night activities.

'I was...I got drugged last night,' the actor groggily tells his camera phone. 'Somebody slipped me something...in bed.'

If the confession is a joke, it would be on par with Franco's usual bizarre social media activity, which has included tweeting out images of simulated sex acts and boy-on-boy PDA.

The actor, who was spotted out and about Los Angeles last night at the Chateau Marmont, has been known to make light of himself and his situation, both to fans and the media.

Last week, the actor starred in a book trailer for Gary Shteyngart's latest page-turner, Little Failure. In the video, a disheartened Shteyngart turns to his 'husband' Franco for advice after a bad day at the publisher's (played by Rashida Jones) office.

But rather than offering words of wisdom to his suffering partner, Franco reveals to Shteyngart that he has written his own opus: Fifty Shades of Gary.

'Think of this as an homage. I want the world to celebrate our erotic journey,' Franco tells his dejected hubby.

In the trailer, Franco's book becomes a sensation, a feat the actor is hoping to capture in real life, as Franco's latest novel, Actors Anonymous.

The 127 Hours star was recently in Vancouver, Canada for a book signing and meet 'n greet with the fans.

The book follows the exploits of different characters living in and about Hollywood, including a former child star, various hospital workers, a McDonald's drive-thru operator with big dreams and the ghost of River Phoenix.

In addition to his new release, Franco has also been the focus of awards buzz thanks to his turn as Alien in Harmony Korine's Springbreakers.

Recently, the San Francisco Film Critics' Circle has nominated him for best supporting actor, while MTV gave the fictitious Florida rapper the title of Best Movie Character Of 2013.

When not attending various Canadian book signings, filming book trailers or visiting Hollywood hot spots, Franco is working a busy slate, currently shooting the films True Story, The Labyrinth, Good People and The Little Prince, to name a few.

Underrated actor. I like him. He looks too young for his age to be a druggie.

For some reason the cardigan in the photo of James holding the book reminds me of something the Dude would have worn...

Capote wrote a piece of fiction that was really the truth and loved being spaced. Take note Mr Franco how he turned out.

Not a bad actor but definitely overexposed. People will tire of him and his constant exposure.
