Horsing around! Kaley Cuoco enjoys some equestrian fun as she saddles up in snug-fitting jodhpurs and riding boots

She's an avid equestrian, often competing in horse-jumping events.

And Kaley Cuoco took some time away from her day job as a successful television actress to indulge in her other abiding passion on Saturday in Simi Valley, California.

The 28-year-old was spotted getting in some vigorous exercise as she straddled her steed while wearing a pair of form fitting jodhpurs and riding boots.

The star sported some horn rimmed sunglasses as she took her gorgeous chestnut horse through its paces.

With her jeans traded for jodhpurs she looked markedly different as she trotted around the course like a true pro, her blond locks tucked beneath a black riding hat.

The actress was clearly enjoying some quality time away from her ditzy role as Penny on hit CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory, which returned with a seventh series in September.

Cuoco is an experienced rider, having taken part in a horse-jumping competition in Santa Barbara just this past October.

And Kaley clearly loves the sport as she returned to the saddle last year after a freak riding accident left her with an ankle injury so serious that doctors initially contemplated amputating her foot.

‘I'm hysterical and the doctor comes in... and says, "OK, gotta go over your options; one (of) them is amputation,’ she told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in 2010.

‘All I'm thinking is, "I'm gonna have to call work and tell them I only have one foot,"' she said.

'He really was telling me that they were thinking there was infection... (I thought) my foot was gonna be gone...

‘They had to tell me because I was going into emergency surgery that I might be coming out with one foot.'

Kaley recently surprised fans by getting engaged to tennis player Ryan Sweeting in September – just three months after they started dating.

Her romance with the sportsman closely followed a brief, two-week fling with Man Of Steel hunk Henry Cavil, with whom she was frequently spotted strolling the streets of Los Angeles hand in hand.

Kaley and Ryan are set to wed on New Year's Eve.

"... as she straddled her steed." It's like reading a regency romance! Anyway, to those people who say she looks like she's getting beginner's lessons - surely she wouldn't be learning the basics on such a fine horse? I would imagine it's difficult to judge someone's riding style on four pictures.

She doesn't appear to be an "avid equestrian" she looks like she's getting beginner lessons. Her form is off and she's way too stiff in the saddle. Way to make a non story about nothing, DM. "Blonde Woman Rides Horse." I know this is the showbiz section, but for a goodness sakes, give us a real story!!

I find it interesting that Kaley owns and rides a jumper. She recently came out supporting a ban on the NYC carriage industry, calling pulling a carriage "cruel." Jumping a horse is far more strenuous than pulling a carriage and jumpers are far more likely to be injured. There have been only 3 NYC carriages that died on the job in 30 years , and one of those deaths was ruled natural causes. Kaley, how many jumpers have died in the last 12 months ?
