The Voice scores lowest rated finale EVER... as Adam Levine or Christina Aguilera prepare to be crowned winning mentor
|
The Voice may have its most talented finalists ever.
But this season's penultimate show on Monday was its lowest rated finale so far.
And it wasn't for a lack of trying.
One will win: Adam Levine or Christina Aguilera will be the winning coach when The Voice announces its season five champion on Tuesday night
Judges and mentors Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green teamed up to perform the Def Leppard classic Pour Some Sugar On Me to kick off the show, and each finalist performed three times.
But the extravaganza appeared to be a flop, as the show scored a 3.3 rating that was down 21 percent from the equivalent season three finale on Dec. 17, 2012, according to Deadline.
A single national ratings point is the equivalent of about 1,142,000 households for the 2012-13 television season.
The season five performance finale on Monday was also down 11 percent from the season four finale which aired on June 17.
The show's ratings also dropped a tenth of a point from the Monday show a week prior on December 9, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Pouring it on: The judges joined members of Def Leppard to perform Pour Some Sugar On Me
Stunning duet: Christina Aguilera and her singer Jacquie Lee teamed up for a duet during the finals of The Voice on Monday night donning long red gowns
The program was, however, the top rated show on television on Monday night with its 3.3 rating, and NBC was the top network with an average 3.0 among adults ages 18 to 49 and 11.1 million viewers.
The winner of The Voice will be announced on Tuesday night with either Christina or Adam as the winning coach.
Christina went into the finals with 16-year-old Jacquie Lee, while Adam was loaded with powerful Jamaican singer Tessanne Chin and Los Angeles singer Will Champlin, whose father was a singer for the rock group Chicago.
Teen star: Jacquie Lee belted out a Jennifer Hudson song
Still in it: Will Champlin overcame a lot to make it to the finals
In it to win it: Tessanne Chin impressed her mentor Adam Levine yet again
The three finalists on Monday revisited their blind audition songs that landed them spots on the show in the first place and also sang a duet with their coaches Christina and Adam.
Each singer also performed a song assigned by their coach and together performed I'll Be There by The Jackson Five.
The finale on Tuesday was scheduled to include guest performances by superstars including Lady Gaga, Celine Dion and Ne-Yo.

I tried to watch it when it first started, but it quickly became clear to me that the show is more focused on the celeb judges and their bickering that it has to do with actually finding new talent. Plus, Christina tries to make mini-me's of her female contestants and is rude to those not on her team.
