Country singer Chris Cagle was arrested in Texas after he was caught allegedly drink-driving.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS), 45-year-old Cagle was arrested early Sunday near Greenville, about 50 miles northeast of Dallas.

The agency said the 45-year-old entertainer, who lives in Marietta, Oklahoma, was reportedly pulled over after running a red light around 2am.

Hunt County Sheriff, Randy Meeks, said on Tuesday that Cagle was under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody after failing a field sobriety test.

Meeks then confirmed that Cagle was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated (DWI).

The sheriff's office said Cagle was released later Sunday on a $3,000 bond.

The penalty for Class B misdemeanor DWI can include a fine of up to $2,000 and up to six months in jail.

Cagle's 2002 single I Breathe In, I Breathe Out reached No.1 on Billboard's country music chart, and his last album, Back in the Saddle, released in 2012, produced two Top 20 hits, Got My Country On and Let There Be Cowgirls.

The Dallas News reported that Cagle was checked in at the Hunt County Jail in Greenville, but other sources indicated he has since been released.

Cagle has had brushes with the law before, as in May 2008 he and his girlfriend were arrested on domestic assault charges after a verbal argument turned physical, and months earlier he was arrested and charged with assault after an altercation with the boyfriend of a fan.

A spokesperson for Chris Cagle has been contacted by the Mail Online for comment.
