Economic impact and employment statistics
The existing operations of Fulham FC support the equivalent to 131 full time employees (FTE’s) based at Craven Cottage and generates £12.4 million supplier spending per annum, the vast majority of this in the local area.
Spending by home and away fans during visits to Craven Cottage generates £19.3 million per season for the local economy, equivalent to over £800,000 per game.
The proposed expansion of the Riverside stand will generate up to 265 person-years of temporary construction employment and the equivalent to an additional 73 FTE’s, through a mixture of permanent and temporary workers.
Fulham Football Club provides wider community benefi ts through a range of initiatives, including the FFC Foundation, and this will be enhanced by the proposed development.
A local restaurateur has commented:
“FFC adds greatly to our ability to trade and exist in the local area. The new stand proposals, which will help secure the future of the Club in the area, are vital for our business to succeed in tough economic times.”
Summary
Craven Cottage has been the home of Fulham Football Club for 115 years. Over recent years we have seen match attendances rise from 9,000 a game in 1997/98 to 25,000 today.
For the last three seasons, we have been at capacity. To ensure that the Club can continue to prosper and compete, we need to expand and improve our facilities at Craven Cottage.
The new stand will bring benefits for fans and local residents. It will:
- Substantially improve the visual appearance of the area.
- Provide a new River walk along the Thames, with facilities such as a riverside cafe open to the public.
- Help manage crowds on match days.
We held two consultation exhibitions, and this is the feedback we received at the exhibitions, by post and on-line.
The Club submitted its application in January 2012.
The Council consulted with residents about the application for the Riverside stand expansion.
Following a planning hearing at London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham on Thursday 26 July 2012, the Club’s plans to redevelop the Riverside Stand at its Craven Cottage Stadium have been approved.
