Overview

The Perseus Classics Collection (1,114 vols.) contains works from classical Greek and Roman authors. This massive collection includes important Greek and Latin classics in their original languages; some works have an English translation. Greek and Latin grammars and commentaries are also included.

Best of all, this entire collection is free. There’s no catch. No strings attached.

It’s rare that classic works like these are made available for free to as many people who want them. It’s even more amazing when you consider that these aren’t just PDFs or text files. They’re Logos books, and they take advantage of many of the features and tools built into Logos Bible Software. So it’s hard to put into words how phenomenal this opportunity really is.

Please note that this collection requires the latest version of Logos Bible Software 4.3.

About This Collection

The works in the Perseus Classics Collection allow you to carefully study Greek and Latin and further familiarize yourself with its literature and languages. Understanding these languages is an invaluable tool in the study of the New Testament. You can search and compare vocabulary in the New Testament and see how it was used classically, enhancing your word study. An English translation provided with many of the Greek and Latin classics, makes these resources accessible to you even if you’re not proficient in these languages.

The Greek and Latin texts in the Perseus Classics Collection will be getting lemma tagging, enhancing Bible Word Study reports. If there’s a word in your word study that is only used once in the New Testament, your Bible Word Study report will now draw in data from the wealth of Greek texts in this collection, pulling up all instances of that word and giving you a better understanding of its meaning and use. You’ll get better results simply because the Bible Word Study report has more material to draw from. We are also currently exploring morph tagging—but we can’t promise anything specific yet.

Lexicons that cite the resources in this collection as source documents will be getting linked. (We are currently working on this process.) This means, for example, if BDAG cites a text from Aristotle, you can click the citation and the Perseus edition of Aristotle will open instantly.

The thoughts and works of the playwrights, poets, physicians, mathematicians, and historians contained in the Perseus Classics Collection (1,114 vols.) enhance the mind—revealing ancient wisdom, theories, and thought—making these works vital tools for study.

This collection includes the works of:

  • Aristophanes
  • Aristotle
  • Marcus Tullius Cicero
  • Terence
  • Homer
  • Horace
  • Hippocrates
  • Plato
  • Plutarch
  • Seneca
  • Sophocles
  • Cornelius Tacitus
  • Tertullian
  • Xenophon
  • And many more!

Endorsements

In my opinion, the Logos implementation of Perseus is now the best tool available for studying Classical Greek background of the Bible

David Instone-Brewer

Now there is a convenient way to do Greek New Testament (and LXX) word studies that not only give you material from other parts of Scripture (or Josephus or Philo or the Greek Pseudepigrapha), but a huge collection of classical literature! This is awesome!

Nijay Gupta

Good research requires, doesn’t it, source materials. Too much scholarship is based on references to works that are references to works that are references to works. Length of bibliography doesn’t guarantee accuracy, however, as sometimes mistakes are simply canonized by constant repetition. With these tools at hand, authentic research can be done.
