Hours after apologising for using audio from the fatal Challenger mission for her song XO, Beyonce may be stirring up a new controversy with a quasi-religious Instagram snap posted on Monday.

In the photo, the pop superstar poses in front of a modern take on The Last Supper, painted by Leonardo DaVinci in the late 1490s that depicted Jesus's last meal with his disciples before his crucifixion.

Bey is sitting in front of the Messiah's spot in the middle of the table, wearing a lime green mini-skirt and revealing yellow bustiere with skinny straps and orange edging.

The 32-year-old did not add a caption to the snap leaving fans to conjecture on the meaning.

One posted: '__edenk87__ She's over being Queen Bey! I think she goin for Beysus!!! #notcool! I ain't feeling this shot... @ezwihapi.'

But others just enjoyed the image without worrying about any possible connotations.

Booty-ful: Fans recognised the location of this snap as Lynwood in Miami, Florida

The photo was one of four put up by the star, who is on a break from her mammoth Mrs Carter Show World Tour.

Two show her in the same outfit walking through a laundry room and past a rubbish dumpster near a restaurant, which fans recognised as being in the Miami neighbourhood of Wynwood, Miami. Neither have messages, again leaving fans confused.

The fourth shot is a close-up of her neck highlighting a beautiful chain with the word 'flawless' spelled out in gold letters. Beyonce captioned that one 'Thank you @lorraineschwartz !,' referring to the famous New York jeweller.

The flurry of photos came after Beyonce apologised for sampling audio from the 1986 Challenger disaster when the rocket broke apart soon after take off, killing the seven astronauts on board.

She drew widespread criticism for using the clip for the video for XO, in which a NASA official can be heard saying: 'Flight controllers here looking very carefully at the situation. Obviously a major malfunction,' as wreckage fell to earth on live TV.

ABC News reported 'former and current NASA astronauts, employees and Challenger family members argue that using it in a pop song mocks the crew's sacrifice and opens fresh wounds.'

In a statement to ABC News, Beyonce said: 'The song XO was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones.'

The Halo singer added the reference should 'remind us that unexpected things happen,' so people should 'love and appreciate every minute that you have with those who mean the most to you.'

She also said, 'My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Challenger disaster.'

Her statement ended with: 'The songwriters included the audio in tribute to the unselfish work of the Challenger crew with hope that they will never be forgotten.'

Regardless of your beliefs it's disrespectful to all Christians and to the families of the Challenger tragedy. Seriously!?... I use to like Beyonce, but so over her. She's not what she thinks she is. Her and Jay can worship the devil all they want to, and they will pay for it. But, be respectful to everyone else.

She used to be all about the music. That seems to be changing. Too bad I can't find one song on her new album that I like.

Completely irrelevant but, never seen a close up untouched photo like that, she has a lot of beauty spots. Too much holidaying in the sun. Lucky. And here i am with vitamin D deficiency for too little sun.

She makes me sad :( She is 30 year old women with kid and husband and she is acting so stupid and trashy :( She was nice before (i never was a big fan) but now she is so selfish (probably was before too) and will do anything for the money and publicity and she dont get how stupid she looks doing all this things :(

Sacha fierce, the demon that possesses her definetely has something to do with it. Beyonce must repent and trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of her sins. She has money and fame but all of it isn't worth her soul. Satan doesn't cut any good deals.

She's just as bad as Kayne. Her ego is huge, in reality she's as trashy as all the rest.

Ummmm who cares? God isn't even real. This would seriously be like if Harry Potter fans got mad at her for recreating a Harry Potter book cover and taking Harry's place.

If you actually listen to her explanation for Flawless the whole concept behind that and her album is IMPERFECTION! And how she doesn't care about it anymore. People who don't enjoy her music shouldn't judge her from this crap newspaper.

Between this and that trashy new record she put out it seems like "flawless" way to destroy her career.
