Puppy love! Miley Cyrus swaps hugs from ex-fiance Liam Hemsworth for smooches with her beloved pooches

She may not be cuddling up to any particular man at the moment.

But Miley Cyrus is getting plenty of love and kisses from her family of dogs.

The 21-year-old posted an Instagram snap of her smooching with one of her pooches on Monday evening, including the message: 'I hate leaving my little babyyyyy =?=?'.

The cute shot joins a series of photos of her four-legged friends that Miley has posted over the holiday season.

Miley spent the festive period with her family and beloved dogs and couldn't resist sharing pictures  along with the message 'I'm so happy.'

Despite the personal low of ending her engagement to Australian hunk Liam Hemsworth and enduring professional criticism for her raunchy stage antics, the attention-seeking singer insists she has never been happier.

Proving she doesn’t need a man to feel loved, Miley posted a cute picture of herself with her dog where the pet is nuzzling up to her.

She wrote: 'merry christmas. I hope it's filled with love & Mary Jane like mine (sic).'

The dog lover also uploaded a picture of two sleeping pets with the message 'merry Christmas from my fam to your fam (sic).'

Miley’s positive messages comes after she insisted in a recent interview that she is happier than ever since she and Liam called off their engagement.

She told Cosmopolitan magazine: 'I need to treat my music like a relationship – give it my time and all the attention it deserves – and that’s my main love right now.

'This is the best time of my life. I'm not going to look back on it and be like, I wish I hadn’t been dwelling over a breakup, you know?'

Cyrus also told Barbara Walters that she has finally conquered her fear of being alone.

'I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year,' she said.

The Wrecking Ball hitmaker also added, 'I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can't be yourself.'

The couple were together for four years and announced their engagement in 2012, but called it quits in September.

She now believes she can 'actually be happy' on her own.

'I don’t think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19,' the Hannah Montana actress declared. 'I definitely wouldn’t change being engaged.'

But there were some happy moments associated with being almost Mrs Hemsworth.

'It was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years,' said Miley, who rocked to Most Googled status after performing with a foam finger at the VMAs this autumn.

Not wearing that engagement ring, however, has its perks too.

'I wait for those moments of silence, when I’m just at my house, by myself,' she revealed.
