His famous mother Miranda Kerr may have experienced a tough year but little Flynn certainly knows how to make her smile.

The Australian model could not help but beam at her little boy as he cuddled up to her during a day out in New York on Tuesday.

While the two-year-old is only half Australian - with his father Orlando Bloom being British - he looked as though he was little koala cuddling into his gum tree-esque mother.

The mother son duo were out and about on a chilly New York day for a family adventure around the city.

With the 30-year-old's family in tow, the model celebrated the end of 2013 in style.

The model and her family got to see New York from the air with the group taking a helicopter ride over the city's impressive skyline.

Ready for the hoedown: Miranda donned a figure flaunting green skirt, that clung to her derriere and upper thighs before falling in a flowing skirt, and added a fringed cowgirl inspired leather jacket and a pair cowboy come motorcycle boots

For their day out, the 30-year-old model showed she had mastered the art of layering, in a chic ensemble featuring an unusual theme - Western.

Miranda donned a figure flaunting green skirt, that clung to her derrière and upper thighs before falling in a flowing skirt, and added a fringed cowgirl inspired leather jacket and a pair cowboy come motorcycle boots.

Simply chic: With her look already making a statement thanks to its Western edge, the model kept her makeup simple and tied her hair back into a slick bun

Thwarting the cold further, the star wrapped a large black scarf around her neck and accessorised her look further with a pair of simple black sunglasses and a black Givenchy Antigona handbag.

The model kept her make-up simple with a slick of red lipstick - tying her hair back into a slick bun.

Little Flynn was also rugged up in a pair of blue jeans - which were tucked into a cosy pair of Uggs  - complete wit h a checked shirt and a big blue quilted jacket.

While the flight was no doubt very entertaining, the little boy was quite content having fun with his Spider-man maraca that he bought along with him.

Miranda decided to spend the festive season in New York as she needs to look after Flynn while her soon to-be ex husband Orlando works hard on his Broadway play Romeo & Juliet.

She recently told Harper's Bazaar Australia: 'I’m not coming home to Australia for summer because Orlando is working six days a week starring in Romeo and Juliet on Broadway.

'And it’s not fair to take Flynn and go without him. We’re trying to do our best to support each other.'

After her disastrous 2013, what could go wrong for her in 2014? Hard to imagine it's anything other than up, she's down so far as it is.
