30 (degree) Rock! Bare-legged Alec Baldwin goes cycling in shorts... but wife Hilaria bundles up in coat and gloves on day out in chilly New York

It may have been a chilly 30 degrees, but Alec Baldwin braved the cold New York temperatures for a bike ride in shorts on Tuesday.

The former 30 Rock star threw caution - and perhaps common sense - to the bone-chilling wind when he set out on a day out with his family.

While Alec, 55, was clad head to waist in a hooded black rain jacket, the dark athletic shorts he wore left his legs totally exposed to the elements.

That appeared to be no problem for the actor, who rode his sporty bike down the sidewalk while his wife Hilaria pushed their daughter Carmen in a pram a short distance behind him.

Hilaria, 29, was wisely attired in a warm parka over a long navy top and black leggings, a chic ensemble that was completed by a grey scarf, beanie and black high-heeled boots.

Little four-month-old Carmen stayed cosy in her stroller under layers of pastel blankets.

Alec's sweetheart was also accompanied by a male friend, who kept her company while her husband maintained his cycling distance.

The yoga instructor and Extra correspondent took time for a pre-New Year's Eve celebration with Rockin' Eve co-hosts Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy.

'Have an #Extra fun New Years Eve and best wishes for 2014!Laugh & ring in the New Year with Ryan & Jenny tonight @extratv,' Hilaria wrote in the caption.

Hilaria showed off her own rockin' post-pregnancy body by sharing an Instagram video of herself in a bikini while doing yoga in Hawaii. 

Baldwin brought his family to the exotic island where he was shooting Cameron Crowe's untitled romantic comedy alongside Bill Murray, Emma Stone and Danny McBride.

The couple has clearly been inseparable since marrying on June 30, 2012 at St Patrick's Old Cathedral in the Big Apple.

Alec was previously wed to actress Kim Basinger, with whom he shares 18-year-old daughter, Ireland.

28F here in Montana and just got done with a 5mile run. keeping head/neck covered saves 90% of body heat. Thus, while exercising, it's wisest to wear light clothing on legs. Clearly he's not cold, or his legs would be red, and fingernail beds would be purple. 34F (NY temp) is just fine for some exercise. Feels invigorating. Alec only rides his bike <1mile to gym and back to home. DM - again - showed their idiocy, stating this behaviour is strange when it is the norm for active/exercising folk in cold environs.

I fancy him and I'm 34. He's a great actor and has a sexy voice. Hilaria is pretty and fit thanks to all that yoga. I don't see how she is a poser when photographers following them around

I think he just ran out the door to do an errand and give 2 hoots what he looks like....he's not caught up in looking like "Mr Hollywood" every waking moment of his life...he has a life outside of the camera and he's living it like the rest of us normal folks do.

He just left the area in front of his apt.....look carefully and u'll see his wife right behind him....this was the very beginning of his bike ride and he was going to the edge of the walk to where the curb curves down to enter onto the street. SERIOUSLY....some of u need to lighten and stop making stories where there aren't any....

The law in NYC is NO riding bicycles on the sidewalk. You WALK the bike to the street, not ride it. He should have been ticketed and fined like anyone else. Public nuisance.
