It's City's title to win, insists Mourinho as Chelsea boss opens mind games

Jose Mourinho has opened the mind games with Manuel Pellegrini by insisting Manchester City should walk away with the Barclays Premier League title.

The Etihad Stadium club are second, a point a drift of leaders Arsenal who are two points ahead of third placed Chelsea.

But despite what is shaping up to be the most open title race in years, Mourinho insists there is only one club who should be crowned champions in May.

'Let's see what we can do and let's see if Man City kills everybody or if they keep being close to all of us,' said the Portuguese.

'Am I trying to pressure on them? Do you think I am? Do you think I'm capable of it?

'See their squad, see the players, the number of goals, see the strikers.

'[Edin] Dzeko is the third striker of Man City. Dzeko. Do you think I'm putting pressure?

'[Stevan] Jovetic, their fourth. Should they feel any pressure? I don't think so.

'I think they know how good they are and I think they know they are the favourites. I don't think they feel any pressure.'

Chelsea can keep the pressure on City and Arsenal with victory against Southampton.

The fact the Blues are still viewed as realistic contenders for the title illustrates a marked improvement on the previous two seasons.

'We are okay, last year in this moment we were 12 or 11 points behind the leader, so it was game over,' said Mourinho, who insisted he is not in the market for a new centre-forward despite the lack of goals from his current strikers.

'At this moment we are two points behind, so game on. Let's keep going.

'We have to protect the top four, because this season the top four will be a big achievement for everyone.

'And if we can protect the top four, let's see what we can do.

'I think the six teams are there. Of course, Everton and Newcastle are close to the top four, but I think Tottenham and Man United are ready to attack.

'It looks like the difference between the top four and being champion is not a big difference.'

After Joses blinkered view of recent penalty incidents against WBA and LFC everyone knows the man can make his mouth say anything. Now you Chelsea fans have seen the Mourinho the football world sees you should be very concerned about his professed love of your club when the reality his the job he really wanted was at Old Trafford and you are only the consolation prize. TTFN.

Think Jose is getting back to his former self...For a long time he didn't seem to be the same as he was ..Think the Real Madrid job took a lot out of him..Mind games ....Protecting his team by deflecting criticism on himself ...That's the way he works...and it is successful ....Glad to see it !

Did he inherit a good team at Porto as well? Did he inherit a team capable of winning the CL?

No respect for this lad after the Chelsea V Liverpool game, he couldn't admit the Eto'o tackle against Henderson was a booking.

So says a cheque book manager. I can understand when some managers strike it lucky at least once, and also manages mid table clubs in between, but he had been at a money rich club everywhere he had been. I bet if he was hypothetically available for the West Brom job, he would have lasted a shorter time than Steve Clark.

Typical Jose, playing mind games!! Even though he is correct about City being favourites, I still believe top teams can nail their defence. After all City is just a plastic title contender...

After so many years in England he can't speak English properly. Why people admire this man? For his childish behaviour and bad jokes? For his defensive style of football?

His English is considerably better than yours. What qualifies you to criticise?

He is right, of course, when you write it down, however, it doesn't always work out that way does it? City had the best squad last season too. Us blues know only too well that if there's a way it can go wrong we've usually found it. Hopefully things have changed now. It amazes me that there are United fans still bleating about us aving wealthy owners and 'buying' the league. Pathetic! It's not just about the money, ask Leeds, Liverpool or many otherclubs that have invested vast amounts of money and fallen flat on their faces, plus the Glazers are'nt short of a bob or two. We have a great chance to win the league, nothing more, and Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool will have a lot to say about it too! As for United, not a prayer, but I do hope that the get to the league cup final against City. The reds of the world will be terrified of it, they know that they could be absolutely humiliated in front of the world's media. Can't wait, small minded contingient may be quiet for a little while!
