Last workout of 2013! Kate Hudson shows off her slim figure in eye-catching red leggings as she hits the gym on New Year's Eve

For most people, New Year's Eve is all about kicking back and having a good time with a glass of wine.

But Kate Hudson was determined to see out 2013 properly and in the manner she is used to, so was spotted hitting the gym in Brentwood, California, on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old actress showed off her slim figure and washboard stomach in a loose white vest top and eye-catching red leggings as she arrived for her workout session.

Kate finished off her athletic ensemble with a black top wrapped around her waist, a tasselled black bag and flip flops.

The mother-of-two left her hair loose and wore sunglasses, carrying a blue baseball cap as she headed home from the workout center with her friend.

Kate is a huge fan of keeping fit, and credits her slim figure to a regime which includes regular indoor cycling and hot yoga classes, as well as dance workouts,

She told Harper's Bazaar magazine last year: 'Exercise really is a vital part of my day in terms of energy. And I mean just by putting a sports bra on.

'Then maybe you’ll do something, even if it’s a few squats in the backyard and back to the couch.'

Kate previously admitted to exercising for six hours a day to lose her post-pregnancy pounds after giving birth to son Bingham in July 2011.

On Monday, Kate looked far from her usual glamorous self as she arrived at LAX Airport in a fetching hooded shawl.

The Almost Famous favourite completed her look with a long patterned skirt, black bag and a pair of thick rimmed spectacles.

The mother-of-two was accompanied through the busy arrival lounge by her boys Ryder, nine, and two-year-old Bingham.

One person conspicuous by his absence was his handsome rocker father Matt Bellamy.

Perhaps the singer and guitarist was hard at work writing tunes for his band Muse's next album, which he promises will be a return to their prog roots after a period spent dabbling with electronica.

He said: 'The last two albums, we sort of veered away from our instruments a little bit. We sort of focused on things like synthesisers, drum machines and various electronics and stuff.

'I kind of feel like on this next album, we’re going to veer back towards musicianship again and focusing on our own instruments: guitar, bass and drums. It’s probably going to be a bit of a rawer album, and definitely a bit more rock, I’d say.'
