Sort out the diving... or go! Manchester United fanzine demands Moyes rids the club of its cheating
|
The influential Manchester United fanzine Red Issue have called for David Moyes to stamp out the diving culture at Old Trafford - or leave the club.
In a series of passionate postings on Twitter, the fanzine hit out at the recent spate of simulation from Manchester United players.
And Sportsmail understands that the fanzine is set to campaign heavily on this issue in their next publication.
Clear cut? Hugo Lloris' (left) challenge on Ashley Young went unpunished in Man Utd's defeat to Tottenham
Repercussions: United fanzine Red Issue feels Young's previous dives convinced referee not to give a penalty
Previous: Young was heavily criticised for this dive against Real Sociedad in the Champions League this season
Ashley Young had a legitimate penalty appeal turned down by referee Howard Webb towards the end of United’s 2-1 defeat by Tottenham on New Year's Day and the fanzine believe that United’s chances were not helped by the winger’s reputation for diving.
@RedIssue tweeted: ‘No surprise whatsoever to see Young denied a penalty given his previous form for theatrics. This is what happens when you’re a cheat.’
Sort it: Red Issue have demanded David Moyes cures a diving culture at United or leaves the club altogether
Reputation: Adnan Januzaj has already been booked three times this season for simulation
Unimpressed: West Ham's Mark Noble and James Collins clash with Januzaj after a perceived dive
Danny Welbeck also came under the microscope after he fell dramatically under minimal contact from Spurs defender Vlad Chiriches. Referee Webb turned down the penalty claim but did not caution the player for unsporting behaviour.
Welbeck’s fall was the latest in a series of perceived dives from United players, with Adnan Januzaj booked three times already this season for going to ground too easily - although replays showed that the youngster was unfairly cautioned by Webb yesterday - while Wayne Rooney escaped punishment but also dived in the 3-2 victory against Hull on Boxing Day.
Dive? Danny Welbeck was not awarded a penalty for this incident against Spurs but escaped a booking
Simulation: Januzaj was booked for diving after this challenge during the defeat to Tottenham
The account fumed: ‘Welbeck’s dive y’day was the most disgraceful act in a Utd shirt since Januzaj’s last and before that Young and Rooney’s. Sort it Moyes.’
‘No-one minds MUFC losing - that’s football. Losing whilst disgracing the club through cheating is another matter. Sort it Moyes or f**k off.’

Moyes is being scapegoated here. Diving and gamesmanship has been a part of United's culture for years and years under Ferguson. Even their youth team players do it - no joke.
