It has been nearly seven years since Veronica Mars left our small screens but the sleuth will soon be making a blockbuster return.

While little was previously known about the plot of the Veronica Mars movie, a new trailer was released on Thursday.

And fans of the series will definitely not be disappointed in what’s to come when the film hits cinemas in the US on March 14.

Veronica, played by Kristen Bell, has hung up her detective license and is on her way to becoming a successful lawyer, with a perfect boyfriend to boot.

But she can’t help but intervene after learning none other than her ex-boyfriend Logan Echolls has been accused of murdering his girlfriend.

‘Nine years of radio silence and yet I still kind of knew I could count on you,’ Logan, played by Jason Dohring, tells Veronica upon their reunion.

The chemistry between the pair is clearly still there, despite Veronica’s father’s warning: ‘I know he has his qualities, but there’s a darkness to that kid.’

Logan asks his former flame: ‘So are you going to ask if I did it?’ and she replies, ‘I wouldn’t be here if I thought you did.’

There’s one particularly intense moment when the pair, known affectionately to fans as LoVe, are seen in a house together late at night, and Veronica tells Logan, ‘Wait. Don’t go.’

It seems the blonde is risking losing everything, including her relationship, as her current beau, portrayed by Chris Lowell, is not impressed when she stays in her hometown of Neptune for so long in a bid to save Logan.

After she tells her man Piz, ‘There’s just so much going on here right now. I just couldn’t leave,’ he disagrees and fires back: ‘Sure you could.’

Veronica and Logan aren’t the only ones reuniting as it’s also the 10-year Neptune High School reunion, which will see the return of many familiar faces, including Krysten Ritter.

While the movie looks set to provide fans with the same cheeky humour from the show, the plot looks to be a serious one.

‘I’m onto something bad. It’s big,’ Veronica says after snooping around with her favourite long lens camera to try and prove Logan’s innocence.

Max Greenfield, who now stars in New Girl but will be reprising his role as Leo D’Amato in the film, also tells his pal: ‘Veronica whatever you’re doing, be careful.’

The film was crowdfunded through Kickstarter, with the campaign reaching its target of $2million in less than 10 hours and drawing in a total of $5.7million.

She had just had a baby when they started filming, why the rush? Show hasn't been on for 7 years, surely they could have waited a few months.

I never understood why Jason Dohring had a real career. Not sure if I want to see the film though Veronica Mars was a great series.

For what it costs to make a movie, they could have relaunched the TV series.
