Diane Kruger looks matronly in pastel pink mini-dress at Autism Speaks Third Annual Blue Jean Ball

It was a night devoted to autism awareness, but those in attendance at the Autism Speaks Third Annual Blue Jean Ball were also aware of guest Diane Kruger’s matronly appearance as she sashayed into the event on Thursday night.

The 37-year-old actress joined an array of celebrities at Hollywood’s Boulevard 3 to toast FX Network’s Chief Operating Officer and Autism Speaks Board of Directors member Chuck Saftler’s efforts to raise awareness of the condition.

Hitting the red carpet without partner Joshua Jackson, Diane stood out in a pastel pink mini-dress with studded embellishment –  but the short sleeves and double breasted detail unintentionally made her look like a hospital nurse.

One lapel was decorated with a distinctive Autism Speaks badge – one of a distinctly limited collection of accessories worn by the German born star.

Diane teamed her dress with a pair of ruby red heels that matched the garish slash of lipstick on her mouth, while a stylish red clutch from California based brand To Dye For rounded things off.

While her outfit had a matronly cut, its high hemline also gave Diane the opportunity to show off her lithe legs.

However, the actress insists her athletic figure is not to result of rigorous work-outs – because she hates the gym.

‘I’m not really athletic,’ she told Du Jour magazine. ‘Exercising only makes sense if I get pleasure out of it. But pleasure comes from real life, not from staying in a bubble.’

The actress was joined at the annual event by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who performed an intimate acoustic set as guests celebrated Saftler’s fund-raising contribution to autism awareness for the third year running.

Extra’s Maria Menounos and actor Michael Chiklis jointly hosted the event – currently the second largest fundraiser in Southern California.

The Autism Speaks Blue Jean Ball commits itself to raising awareness and much needed funds for autism research as well as resources for families affected by the condition.

Other stars to attend on Thursday evening included Polish-American model and actress Joanna Krupa and Holly Robinson Peete.

If that's 'matronly', all I can say is "Ooh, Matron!"

I really like Kruger's outfit. It's very chic and feminine.

Definition of matronly "characteristic of an older married woman, especially in being staid or rather fat". I think not. Were you worried she looked to happy with herself? Best put her down then.

How can Diane be criticised for her dress's 'lapels' (!) when Maria Menounos rocks up to a BALL in jeans, biker boots and a leather jacket??

Just because she's not showing every bit of skin she possibly could doesn't make her look matronly... She looks beautiful and classy, something most actresses these days can't seem to wrap their heads around.
