Monochrome magic! Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery ditches Lady Mary's ladylike threads for a leather rock chick look

She's usually seen looking chic on the small screen in her artistocratic alter-ego's elegant ensembles.

But Michelle Dockery traded in Lady Mary Crawley's ladylike gowns for a distinctly punkier look as she jetted into Los Angeles' LAX Airport on Monday night.

The 32-year-old actress looked worlds away from her refined Downton Abbey appearance as she rocked a white studded leather jacket, which she teamed with edgy black velvet leggings and a stylish printed tee.

Accessorising her monochrome jet-set ensemble, the British star slung an oversized black leather satchel over her shoulder and opted for on-trend, but sensible, black leather ankle boots as she trudged through the arrivals terminal.

The Essex-born beauty kept her grooming to a minimum for her flight, once again looking a million miles away from Lady Mary's preened and polished appearance.

Wearing her glossy raven bob tucked behind one ear, the actress wore minimal make-up to showcase her enviable English rose features to perfection.

Michelle has been hard at work in America for the past few weeks,  promoting season four of Downton Abbey, which debuted on PBS on Sunday night.

But Julian Fellowes, writer and creator of the popular period drama, has hinted that the upcoming fifth series could be the last.

Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, he said: 'I don't know yet if there is a season six, but it's not going to go on forever. It won't be Perry Mason [long-running US crime drama].'

Fellowes also admitted that he tried to cajole actor Dan Stevens - who played Michelle's on-screen husband, Matthew Crawley - to stay with the ITV series before his character's untimely death, but to no avail.

He added: 'I realised it meant we could have a time jump, so we could start [season 4] six months later, and then you get into all the interesting stuff of someone coming through widowhood and the loss of someone they thought would be there the rest of their lives.

'I didn't want Dan to go. I loved him and I wish he'd stayed with us, but given the fact that he'd gone, I thought that worked for Michelle and made for an interesting journey, as opposed to them just sitting there being happy and saying, "Have you had a good day?".'

hmmm... almost sounds like DM expected her to wear a period gown and over the elbow gloves for the flight. She looks cool and modern, like one would expect of any actress. Remember, Lady Mary is just a character in a tv show, not who Michelle is.

She looks like a chameleon with that lazy eye. Can't tell which way she is looking with that lazy eye. She should wear a patch over that eye.

She dresses so elegantly and seems to have class, something that is hard to find with celebrities nowadays.

She is a real beauty and it's the sort that lasts. She looks so thoroughly English, somehow, so refined, and shows up all the brassy, vulgar Kate, Abbey, Susanna Carol, Nigella brigade.

Kate Evans, I couldn't agree more, but would like to add the name Pippa to the brassy and vulgar brigade
