Sliding... dresses! Gwyneth Paltrow struggles with slim-fitting LBD on Mortdecai set before costar Johnny Depp takes the only seat

It appeared to be a less than comfortable day on set for Gwyneth Paltrow on Wednesday, despite shooting alongside pal, and heartthrob, Johnny Depp.

The actress appeared to be struggling with her ill-fitting black dress as she shot scenes for crime drama Mortdecai in Los Angeles.

The short number appeared to be riding up as she chatted to the crew, while the 41-year-old tried in vain to pull it back down.

Despite her pins looking slim and toned in the simple outfit, Gwyneth's face said it all as she covered up in a thick, black coat.

Before her A-list costar showed just who was in charge as he grabbed a plum seat ahead of her during a break in filming.

The Oscar-winner looked a little disappointed she had missed out on the desireable bench seat, perhaps because the left hand side is more harmonious under the tenets of Feng Shui, a subject that is always fashionable among the Hollywood elite.

R-avenge: The actress' pins looked endless in the the short number, which appeared to be causing her a lot of discomfort
Help me: The 41-year-old didn't look to be happy with the situation and could be seen frowning

Pulling rank: Johnny underlined his star status by sitting down before his costar

Johnny, who plays the movie's main character Charles Montdecai looked like a contented man as he rested his old legs while sitting on the metallic seat.

The cunning 50-year-old took full advantage of the Iron Man star stopping to share a smooch with Jeff Goldblum before boldly making his move.

Ironically Gwyneth, had been eyeing up the bench moments earlier before being distracted by her cerebral co-star.

Catching her out: Johnny saw her eyeing up the plum bench seat as he sauntered over with a drink in hand

The perfect diversion: Jeff Goldblum came over to kiss Gwyneth and Johnny seized his golden opportunity

Perhaps it is a good thing that Johnny pulled the unchivalrous stroke however, for his character is not a typical hero.

In fact Charles is a sometime art thief, and is described in Kyril Bonfiglioli's series of crime books as 'portly, dissolute, immoral and middle-aged.'

He skirts his way between high society and London's shady criminal scene, all for personal gain, but at times, his actions seem to blow up in his face.

However this was not the case on this occasion, with Gwyneth opting not to make a scene and instead sitting somewhere else.

I don't believe it: Gwyneth looked glum when she saw the star had stolen her plum seat

Making do: And she still looked grumpy as she took the right hand chair, which may be less harmonious according to Feng Shui

DM--You're slipping! So many unanswered questions. What is Depp drinking? What's written on the piece of paper that Gwyneth is holding? Who is the gentleman afflicted with back problems? What would happen if Depp wasn't wearing suspenders? Is Depp listening through his right hand to what Goldblum is whispering in Gwyneth's right ear? Do Depp's socks match his tie, or was the wardrobe director fired? Why won't Gwyneth answer my calls?

The dress is actually long. She must have been adjusting her Spanx in those first few shots.

That is EXACTLY right! If you look closely she is pulling down something on her leg. Ever thought of a career in cutting edge journalism?

This is utterly ridiculous. The stupid dress isn't short; its long. Where Johnny sat didn't even register with Gwyneth. Why do you have to just make stupid stuff up? It's idiotic.

It looks more like she had the dress hiked up trying to fix...her stockings..maybe? That would have made for a better story too considering it doesn't really fit with her prim and proper personality that they usually present.

Why doesn't DM discuss Depp's "pins"?
