It is with sadness and regret that we bid adieu today to Liquid`Zenio as a member of our active team. After putting in a great deal of effort for little return in 2013, Zenio decided this week that he would retire as a progamer. Even if Zenio never achieved the success that others have achieved with Liquid, he was an integral part of our team for a long time, and we have really enjoyed the time that he's been with us. Maintaining his play at the highest level for over three years is a feat that very very few have achieved in Sc2. Even if Zenio was never able to capture the ultimate prize of a championship, his consistency stands as a testament to his hard work and dedication. In the tradition of past retirees, Zenio will keep the Liquid tag and remain a part of our extended family.
From Liquid`Nazgul...
Truth be told this is one of the most difficult goodbyes I had to write.
As the owner of Liquid, I've had the great pleasure of being beside players as they realized their dreams and achieved great success. However, for the majority of progamers, their story is very different. The life of a progamer can be very tough if you're not one of the best or most entertaining players in the world. Zenio is one such example.
Zenio was a player who told me he could be as good as anybody at being a showman. But before any of that, he was first a proud competitor and hard worker. He wanted to be recognized for his skill over anything else, and throughout the years he worked his ass off. Sometime around April of last year, Zenio told us he felt he wasn't good enough to deserve the attention of fans and he asked us whether he could stop streaming, stay out of the public eye, and focus solely on practicing until he thought he deserved to receive more attention. Sadly, he never got back to the level he was aiming for.
Zenio had a great early career, and many progamers would be envious of his achievements. Not many players can say they played in eight seasons in Code S, the toughest league in the world. For Liquid, he gave our lineups a lot of depth and contributed significantly to our success in team competition. TaeJa's incredible run in IPLTAC would not have been possible if we didn't have Zenio there to back him up as our second best player in the league, contributing with important wins when we needed them the most.
Last year, every now and then Zenio would shine in a team league match to give us hope, but overall it wasn't a great year for him. Sadly enough, it won't come as a surprise that Zenio is hanging up his gloves. Progaming is hard work, and it's not rewarding for everyone.
To the end, Zenio felt like he didn't deserve to be the center of attention and declined to comment on his retirement. Though he may feel like he could have given the fans more to cheer for, it has been more than a respectable career.
It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Zenio throughout the years. For all of the rough times, I hope that he has enjoyed the experience of travelling, meeting new people, and being a professional gamer. Thank you for everything Jungmin.
