Derrick Rose practices Wednesday, still out for season |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (3/26/14) Bulls guard Derrick Rose was able to participate in part of the team's practice Wednesday, but that doesn't mean he is expected back at any point this season as he recovered from knee surgery.
"(He's doing) all the noncontact stuff," coach Tom Thibodeau told the Daily Herald after practice. "He's moving along fine. He has picked it up a little bit. But there's still no contact. He's out for the year, but he's doing well."
Rose is four months into his recovery, but the team has maintained throughout the process that he is not expected to play at any point this season. He has been out since suffering the injury Nov. 22, and ended up playing just 10 games this season after sitting out all of 2012-13 with a different knee injury.

Rehab going well for Derrick Rose |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (1/13/14) Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said Monday that guard Derrick Rose is doing well with his rehab and is off crutches, the team announced. Rose could begin traveling with the team in a couple of weeks.
Rose isn't going to play again this season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus, but if the Bulls remain in the mix for a playoff spot as the postseason approaches, there will certainly be buzz on whether he'll return earlier than expected to try and lead his team to a title. The team figures to play it extremely cautious with their superstar as he recovers from a second major injury in two years.

Derrick Rose could return in postseason if 'situation is right' |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (12/5/13) In his first press conference since having surgery to repair a torn medial meniscus, Bulls guard Derrick Rose did not rule out a possible return during the postseason, according to ESPN Chicago.
His rehab is expected to last at least six months, according to general manager Gar Forman. Forman initially told reporters that he's "really out" for the year regardless of how far the Bulls go in the postseason.
"If I'm healthy and the situation is right, I'm going to be back playing," Rose said. "If I'm healthy and my meniscus is fully healed, of course I'll be out there playing. But if it's something totally different and the outcome is not how I would want it to be, there's no need."
Rose also said he does not expect to change his game after suffering the second season-ending injury of his career. In fact, he believes he can come back and be at least the same player he was before the injury.
"You can be a fool if you want to," Rose said. "I know I'm going to be all right."

The drama of Derrick Rose's 2012-13 season was well-documented, so we won't spend too much time on it. To recap: Rose suffered an ACL tear in the 2012 postseason, and never felt quite well enough to return to the floor last season, despite reportedly receiving medical clearance from the Bulls' training staff. As a result, we have to judge Rose's Fantasy value this season without seeing his post-surgery condition. Rose has spent the offseason reassuring interested parties that he is going to be 100-percent healthy by opening night, 17 months removed from his injury. We have seen players come back rusty from ACL surgery, but it is hard to say if that is a result of not being at full strength physically, or a mental block. Fantasy owners have to hope Rose will be able to hit the ground running in his return, especially given how far removed he is from surgery. He is worth taking the risk on in the second round of all Fantasy formats on Draft Day.
