Pau Gasol still ill, likely to return Tuesday |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (12/30/13) Lakers center Pau Gasol is expected to return action Tuesday against the Bucks, though his bout with an upper respiratory infection is by no means over. As he told the Los Angeles Times Monday after practicing, he is dealing with both sinusitis and bronchitis, and will likely be on antibiotics for the next few weeks before he fully recovers.
Gasol has missed the last two games as a result of the illness, and could miss more time moving forward as he continues to recover.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (12/29/13) Lakers forward Pau Gasol will not play in Sunday's game against the 76ers due to an upper respiratory infection, the Los Angeles Times reports.
It'll be Gasol's second straight missed game with the illness. The team's next game comes on Tuesday against Milwaukee. Gasol has averaged 14.7 points and 9.4 rebounds over 28 games.

Chris Kaman, Pau Gasol still up in the air for Sunday |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (12/28/13) The Lakers could be without two of their top big men Sunday against the 76ers, as both Pau Gasol (illness) and Chris Kaman (ankle) are game-time decisions.
Gasol has missed two of the team's last four games as a result of an upper-respiratory infection. Kaman started Friday's game in Gasol's place, scoring 19 points and adding 10 rebounds in 30 minutes, but suffered an injury in the game.
If neither play can play, the team will likely start either Robert Sacre or Jordan Hill.

Pau Gasol’s lengthy NBA and international playing career seemed to catch up with him all at once a year ago, as the 33-year-old suffered through the worst season of his career. Gasol struggled to find room to operate in Mike D’Antoni’s offense and never found much chemistry with center Dwight Howard. Gasol averaged 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game during what was easily his least productive NBA season, and he also missed 33 games due largely to plantar fasciitis issues. While Howard isn’t around and Gasol could return to playing center, it is fair to wonder if his body will ever be able to recover the form that made him a perpetual top Fantasy option. Even in his diminished state, Gasol was still pretty decent last season, but he is no longer worth targeting in the first few rounds on Draft Day. Fantasy owners should consider him more of a mid-round option in the hopes that he bounces back.
