No MRI on horizon for Kobe Bryant |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (2/18/14) Lakers guard Kobe Bryant hasn't recovered enough to have an MRI yet, NBA.com reports.
The team won't be able to provide a timetable on a potential return until Bryant is able to resume activity, and that won't happen until he's able to have the MRI. He still is experiencing pain and swelling in the injured knee.
Bryant has averaged 13.8 points, 6.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds over six games played this season.

Rehab process moving slowly for Kobe Bryant |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (2/16/14) With just minutes before the start of the All-Star game, Lakers injured guard Kobe Bryant addressed the media about his recovery from a fractured lateral tibial plateau in his left leg. Bryant, who received 988,884 votes by fans to start for the Western Conference, told reporters the rehab process has been moving slowly, per ESPN.
Bryant has been sidelined since Dec. 19 with the injury and has been limited to only six games this season. He is expected to be re-evaluated soon after the All-Star break. He's hoping to return to the floor again this season, but would not clarify on whether this would be the last of his career.
"Maybe this is the end. Then again, maybe it's not," Bryant said.

Kobe Bryant to be re-evaluated after All-Star game |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (2/10/14) The Lakers will re-evaluate injured guard Kobe Bryant after te All-Star game, ESPNLosAngeles.com reports. Bryant expects to play again before the end of the season but does not know when he'll return.
"It's completely out of my control," Bryant said. "I really got to sit here and just wait until this thing heals up and then go out there and do what I do."
Bryant stayed behind last week for rehab on his injured knee when the team went on a three-game road trip. He has averaged 13.8 points, 6.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds over six games played this season.

Kobe Bryant out at least three more weeks |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (1/28/14) Lakers guard Kobe Bryant was re-evaluated Tuesday, and received some bad news as he continues to recover from a fractured kneecap. The team announced the examination revealed he is still dealing with swelling and pain in the knee, and will not be evaluated again for three weeks.
This timeline puts Bryant out for the All-Star game, though he was voted in by the fans. Bryant will likely still need some time to rehabilitate and get practice in before he is able to return, as he has been limited to non-weight-bearing exercises thus far, and will continue to be so until his next examination.
Bryant has been limited to six games this season, first while recovering from Achilles surgery and then as a result of this knee injury. He might not be able to return to action until March at this point.

Kobe Bryant out at least two more weeks |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (1/28/14) Lakers guard Kobe Bryant will miss at least two more weeks while recovering from a fractured lateral tibial plateau in his left knee, Bleacher Report reports.
Bryant is scheduled for a doctor's evaluation Tuesday night, but the discomfort in his knee is so great that he won't even undergo an MRI or any other diagnostic procedure to determine his rate of healing. He could be sidelined "at least two more weeks, perhaps another month," according to the report.
Bryant was initially expected to miss six weeks after suffering the injury, but he's nearing the end of his sixth week of absence and still has no firm timetable for return.

For years, 35-year-old Kobe Bryant has been outrunning Father Time, remaining an elite player in both Fantasy and real life. Unfortunately, his more than 1,400 career games caught up with him in an instant last April, as Bryant suffered a torn Achilles that ended his season and required surgery to repair. Though all indications are that Bryant is aiming for a return by the start of the regular season, Achilles injuries are notoriously difficult for older players to come back from. Bryant still averaged 27.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game a year ago, but overcoming this issue and returning to play at a high level is a lot to ask at his age. Though we aren’t going to bet against Bryant, it is best to temper expectations as Bryant enters his 18th season. Fantasy owners can still look for Bryant in the first few rounds, but he is certainly a risky option on Draft Day.
