Newly-single Hilary Duff showcases her flawless complexion by going make-up free as she hits the gym for a workout

She's newly-single after announcing her split from Canadian hockey star husband Mike Comrie earlier this month.

And Hilary Duff appeared to be channelling her heartache into a gruelling workout as she hit the gym in Toluca Lake, California, on Tuesday afternoon.

Going make-up free as she wandered inside, the 26-year-old actress showcased her flawlessly radiant complexion by wearing her blonde locks scraped back from her face into a scruffy topknot.

The mother-of-one opted for a low-key ensemble for her session, teaming a loose-fitting black 'Peace' motif vest with tight exercise leggings.

Sensibly, the former Lizzie McGuire actress chose a comfortable-looking pair of bright orange trainers, while carrying a black hoodie in case she got chilly.

Hilary kept her mobile phone close at hand, no doubt so she was easily contactable by whoever was caring for Luca, 22 months, her son with her estranged husband.

The couple announced their 'cordial' separation on January 10 after three years of marriage.

Although the pair seemed loved-up during their public appearances, it was later revealed they had been in couple's therapy for the past 18 months of their union.

Taking to her Twitter page soon after news of the split broke, Hilary said: 'Mike and I are sitting here, we are so appreciative for all of your kindness & well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together.'

A source close to the couple revealed to People: 'There was no major incident – no big event between the two of them. They really did drift apart.'

The couple are believed to have had a prenuptial agreement because Mike's family is worth $500 million predominantly from his father Bill's furniture and appliance retail company, The Brick in Edmonton, in Canada.

Meanwhile, Hilary made her fortune starring as Lizzie McGuire in the hit Disney television series, before branching out to a pop career.

Hilary and Mike, 33, started dating in 2007, before announcing their engagement in February 2010 and tying the knot in Santa Barbara, California, in August 2010. The couple welcomed little Luca, their only child, into the world on March 20, 2012.

A-Listers Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Hudson's children were both photographed in LA yesterday and their kid's faces were blurred out in all the press because both these woman demand this. Duff, who does not have a career, allows her innocent child's face to be published in a desperate attempt for publicity. Does anyone wonder why Comrie has had enough?

Duff's appearance on the website of a mid market British newspaper 20 times a week, when she is nowhere to be seen in any form of American media, is clearly staged by her publicist, and the Mail is the only one biting. They clearly inform the paps where she will be, and my original post is accurate. She could stop her baby's face from being shown. The Mail calling this person "Svelte".......just as they call Nicole Richie, "Healthy...........or a clearly fat Jessica Simpson "Slim"......is theater of the absurd that invites backlash.....

I don't know who Danii is but I agree with her about the other celebrity kids whose faces are blurred. Granted they are still being photographed but it shows that there ARE ways to protect your child from their faces being plastered all over the media. So the parents that allow their child's faces to be photographed are exposing who their child is to everyone.

Well then if that were the case the married couple should talk about it and work things out because they love one another. You don't just walk away because you are being ignored. That is what happens when a baby comes along, you aren't the only two in the equation.
