She plays a character who has been brought up not to value appearances but Shailene Woodley obviously doesn't feel the same way.

The 22-year-old actress looked sensational at the Chicago premiere of Divergent on Tuesday night, where she rocked a black and silver minidress which showed off her slim pins.

Shailene was a far cry from her Divergent character Beatrice 'Tris' Prior, who at the beginning of the movie wears only drab and shapeless grey clothes.

She also spent some time catching up with hunky Theo James, who plays her love interest Tobias 'Four' Eaton in the film.

It's easy to see why the duo were cast as love interests as their easy chemistry was palpable as they cosied up together at the premiere.

Shailene made sure she gave her fans something to remember by mingling and signing autographs before she headed inside to watch her film.

The movie, which is set in a dystopian futuristic Chicago and based on the novel of the same name, sees people divided into five distinct factions based on their personalities.

However Shailene's character Beatrice 'Tris' Prior discovers that she is Divergent.

This means she does not fit into any one faction and soon discovers a sinister plot brewing in the seemingly perfect society.

It could certainly prove to be a lucrative career move for the former  The Secret Life of the American Teenager star, as it is the smash hit book series is a trilogy.

The rising starlet was previously cast as Mary Jane Watson in the forthcoming Amazing Spider-Man sequel.

However the character was axed so they could focus on Peter Parker's romance with Gwen Stacy.
