Catherine Martin beams with joy in LA after Oscars win (but husband Baz Luhrmann skips the ceremony and celebration)
|
Catherine Martin became the most successful Australian in Oscar history when she claimed her third and fourth statuettes on Sunday night.
And she couldn't hide her delight as she emerged in LA on Monday following her Academy Awards triumph.
Dressed in a playful pair of floral silk trousers and a matching jacket, the 49-year-old Australian smoothed her flaxen tresses into a sleek, slightly tousled style and flashed a wide smile.
Unfazed: Catherine Martin stepped out looking her glamorous and colourful self on Monday after her husband Baz Luhrmann was widely criticised for not attending the Oscars
Winner: The 49-year-old Australian scooped up two Academy Awards for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design for her work on The Great Gatsby on Sunday night
Well-earned treat: Martin was seen leaving the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood following her big night
She kept her makeup simple with a slick of mascara and a ruby red manicure, adorning her lips with lashings of pink gloss.
On Sunday, the Sydney born designer wore a vintage-style gown featuring embellished details at the sleeves and hips when she was presented with awards for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design for her work on The Great Gatsby.
She is now the proud owner of four Academy Awards after previously winning two Oscars for Moulin Rouge back in 2001.
Skipped out: The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann Tweeted his congratulations to his wife after spending Saturday at Sydney's Mardi Gras with the couple's two children
Famous friends: The 51-year-old was photographed soaking up the festive spirit with veteran Australian songstress Tina Arena
In a rather surprising move, Catherine's husband and Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann did not join her in LA for the ceremony.
Instead he opted to stay in Sydney and was pictured attending Mardi Gras on Saturday night with their children.
While he wasn't present as his wife was honoured with the industry's highest of accolades, he did tweet his congratulations, writing: 'Thats my girl! One down, one to go! #Oscars #CatherineMartin #gatsby'.
The Great Gatsby was largely ignored by the Academy after its release date was pushed forward six months, effectively putting the film out of contention for the 2012 award season.
Vintage Hollywood: The creative director wore a vintage-style gown featuring embellished details at the sleeves and hips to receive her two accolades
The 51-year-old did however, enjoy a moment in the spotlight after the film dominated the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, scooping up six gongs including Best Film and Best Direction in January.
Luhrmann is currently putting the finishing touches on his upcoming Strictly Ballroom musical production.
