Is Steven Spielberg planning a West Side Story remake? Fox 'unlocks title after director expresses interest'
|
It is one of the most classic movies and musicals of all time.
So much so that West Side Story has long been covered in red tape as far as a remake was concerned.
Now, however, that could all be about to change as it has been revealed that Fox has unlocked the movie title.

Taking on a new challenge?: It has been claimed that Steven Spielberg has expressed interest in working on a West Side Story remake
This, according to Deadline, is purely because Steven Spielberg expressed interest in making it.
The publication claims that nothing further has happened in the project because the director has merely started to consider it.
As a result, no writer has been set to take on the very daunting task.
It comes amid rumours that Stacey Snider, the chairman and CEO of DreamWorks, could be making a move to Fox.
Classic: The 1961 movie has been covered in red tape because it's such a classic, but Fox has apparently unlocked the title after learning of Spielberg's interest
And this would certainly tie things up nicely for Spielberg, who is a principal partner for the movie studio and has been producing with Snider for years.
Spielberg is currently in between projects as his movie Robopocalypse has been held for the time being and an Adventures Of Tintin sequel has been pushed back.
He is also rumoured to be in talks to work on Montezuma, about the Spanish conquest of the Aztec empire, starring Javier Bardem.
Interesting timing: The reports come amid others that DreamWorks CEO and Spielberg's producing partner Stacey Snider, who he is pictured with in 2011, is making a move to Fox
Spielberg was spotted having lunch with Harvey Weinstein, and a woman who looked just like Snider, in Brentwood on Monday, the day after the Oscars.
West Side Story, which is based on Romeo And Juliet, started as a Broadway musical in 1957, and was adapted into a smash hit movie which was released in 1961.
The film starred Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno and George Chakiris and was directed by Robert Wise and Jermone Robins.
