Shayne Lamas was widely believed to have suffered a miscarriage when she was hospitalized in early February.

But in an interview with InTouch, the 28-year-old and husband Nik Richie, 35, explained that wasn't the case. Their son, who they later named Rex Jagger, had been growing halfway outside her uterus and was attached to both her womb and bladder, making it impossible to have a healthy pregnancy.

'The doctors hadn't seen anything like it,' Lamas, who was on season 12 of The Bachelor, revealed.

When her placenta became punctured, the daughter of actor Lorenzo Lamas began to hemorrhage. In order to save the beauty's life, the unborn child had to be spared.

'The doctors told me, "The baby is killing her. We have to remove the fetus or Shayne is going to die,"' Richie told the weekly.

'It wasn't a miscarriage. It was them having to kill our child to save my wife.'

It all started when the former reality star was relaxing at home on February 9.

She was 20 weeks pregnant with her second child - she already has daughter, Press, aged two, with Nik - and was watching cartoons in her living room.

'Out of nowhere, I had cramps like I'd never felt before, coming from all sides of my stomach - worse than labor,' she said. She then passed out and the rest was 'all a blur.'

When she woke up she was told not only was her baby gone, but she had been given a hysterectomy.

'I screamed from the top of my lungs,' she told InTouch. 'You never think something like this will happen to you.'

Nik said his wife lost 15 pints of blood and doctors weren't sure if she would make it.

'She died on the table and they brought her back,' TheDirty.com founder said.

'The doctors said it was an absolute miracle. There were two minutes where she lost oxygen to her brain.'

Lamas was put into a coma as Richie said goodbye to Rex. 'I picked him up and I told him how much we loved him,' said Nik. 'I kissed him on the forehead, held his hand and told him I would see him one day.'

The blogger added: 'He was the most beautiful child. He looked just like Shayne.'

Rex's ashes have been scattered in the Pacific Ocean.

Though Lamas had a hysterectomy, doctors were able to save her ovaries which means she can have more children.

'I'll be able to give my eggs to a surrogate,' she said. 'I absolutely will have more kids. I want that for my family.'

Now she's just trying to get back to 'normal.'

'It's so hard when I'm giving Press a bath and I picture that there was supposed to be another one in the tub,' the actress added. 'I'd started to clean the newborn clothes. Now I can't bear to look at them. For the rest of my life, I'm going to think of my son who never got to live.'

When the TV star came back to - after her heart stopped briefly on Valentine's Day - she reached out to her fans.

'Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. I've cried reading the expression of generosity and warmth from everyone,' she said.

'I'm out of ICU at Mission Viejo Hospital. I cannot thank the medical staff here enough for not giving up on me.'

This is absolutely tragic. Im 20 weeks pregnant now and I cant imagine what it would be like to have to live through this. I really hope that she recovers well physically, and that they heal emotionally as a family.

Wow incredible that she survived this. Its good that one day she can still have biological children through a surrogate. I would only imagine she now has to work through this pain that will at times cause depression just thinking so much about what was lost. Get well.

It's harsh for her to say they killed the baby. The doctors or her husband had to make a choice to either save her or the baby and unfortunately, taking the baby saved the mother's life. I hope she's not bitter or angry with them. They did what needed to be done.
