She is known for her hit Hand In My Pocket from her huge-selling Jagged Little Pill album.

But Alanis Morissette is asking her old housekeeper to put her hand in her pocket, according to a new report.

TMZ claim the star is locked in a bitter court battle with Maria Garcia - her former 'House Manager' who allegedly walked off with her pet pooch Circus.

The site reports that a lawsuit has been filed in L.A. County Superior Court, and reveals Maria asked for Circus to be part of her severance when she was let go.

Maria is said to have grown close to the dog when Alanis, 39, and her husband Mario Treadway were on the road touring.

Alanis - who has an estimated net worth of around $45 million - is asking 'for more than $25k and they want the judge to order the return of the dog' according to TMZ.

Aside from her lawsuit, it looks as though the singer/songwriter has a very busy 2014 in store.

As well as a 2014 world tour, she is working on a Broadway musical based on her album Jagged Little Pill, which won Album of the Year 18 years ago at the Grammy Awards.

It is set to hit the stage as a workshop production within a few months.

Her husband is so unsightly; he looks like he needs a good shave and a bath.

Until dogs are de-listed as one's property, lawsuits like this one will not exist.

Alanis doesn't deserve that precious little pooch if she is never home to spend time with Circus.. Chihuahua's are known to bond with one person and need a lot of love& attention. They are total lap dogs!

Mean, horrid, over-paid, lacking in grace, rock star. I was going to buy Jagged Little Pill again - her ONLY decent album - but I won't now. Shame on her.

That pretty darn low when you have to sue a house keeper that I'm sure she hardly paid much in wages. She wasn't home so obviously she never spent time with the dog. The maid knew the dog would just be abandon when she went on the road anyway. I think this woman is just being mean and vengeful towards the ex housekeeper. The LA pounds have so many chihuahuas that she can get another for less than $50. It looks like the signer was over feeding the dog anyway and it in a loving home where it will be taken care of. This is the most abuse of the justice system that I've ever see and I think the singer needs to be fined for frivolous charges. Make her pay out $20,000 out of her pocket to the maid and see how she feels. I know she wouldn't want me as the judge because that's what I'd do. There are many cases more important than to waste the courts time on something so petty.

Poor dog - what is in it's best interests? If the housekeeper was the person it bonded with and knew best, then that should be who looks after it. Its a living being, not a possession

Dog should stay with whoever can be home with it more and look after it properly, so that's probably the housekeeper. And a Broadway musical based on Jagged Little Pill? Hmmmm.....
