Christina Hendricks is famed for her voluptuous curves and her fiery red tresses.

But as the 41-year-old Mad Men star reveals in April's edition of Redbook, her trademark locks are really naturally blonde.

She told the magazine: 'When I was ten years old, redheads always intrigued me, especially Anne of Green Gables, and my mom said, "Let's just throw a rinse on that!" Little did she know she opened a can of worms. I still love my hair as red as I can get it!'

On the subject of hair, the stunning actress also admitted she was once a shampoo girl at high school: 'I scrubbed heads, made perm solutions, put in rollers, and swept up a lot of hair,' she told the publication.

Ms Hendricks, who plays saucy secretary Joan Harris in the smash-hit TV show, also talks about how she manages to look polished, even when she's pulling up to the set at 5am, and reveals the perfume that helps her get into character.

'Fresh's Cannabis Rose [fragrance, $88, available here]. I spray it on before I go to work. Years ago, Janie Bryant – our show’s costume designer – and I began putting Joan in a lot of dresses with roses on them and we realized, Joan is a rose girl,' she explains.

'It's the first thing I put on when I wake up, and my husband just thinks I have naturally flushed cheeks!' she revealed.

Ms Hendricks, who is married to actor Geoffrey Arend, is currently busy filming the final season of Mad Men.

She was seen partying with some of her co-stars at last weeks post-Oscars Vanity Fair party.

The seventh series of the show will be split into two sets of seven episodes, with the first part premiering on April 13th at 10pm on AMC in the U.S.

But fans will have to wait nearly an entire year for the second half of the season, with the final seven episodes now not scheduled to air until spring 2015.

The full interview with Ms Hendricks appears in the new edition of Redbook magazine, out next week.
