They were once an item, and have stayed friends ever since.

So it’s no surprise that Simon Cowell gave his first sit down interview with Extra’s Terri Seymour to discuss his new role as a father to his baby son Eric.

And Simon  - who was pictured on Wednesday leaving his Miami hotel with Lauren Silverman to jet back to London - has revealed to Terri that he believes he was 'born to be a dad'.

The 54-year-old star welcomed his first child Eric into the world with his girlfriend Lauren last month, and he insists he always knew he'd make a good father one day.

Speaking in his first television interview since the birth on February 14, Simon revealed all to Terri, who was recently involved in an 'simple' accident in Miami leaving her with a broken arm.

The music mogul, who has two Yorkshire Terriers Squiddly and Diddly, was reduced to tears when he locked eyes on his son for the first time and he was surprised by the immediate love he had for him.

He explained: 'I actually said to Lauren beforehand, "What if I like the dogs more than him?" and she said, "You're gonna be absolutely fine," and then literally within seconds of him being born, I got it!'

The couple named their baby boy - who was born in New York City - after Simon's late father Eric and will soon take the tiny tot over to England to meet the 'X Factor' boss' mother Julie for the first time.

Heading back to London on Wednesday, it will no doubt be the first time that baby Eric will meet his mother Julie, and brother Tony.

Speaking about his mum, Simon said: 'I think she's told the whole village ... she's really excited. I look at him, Eric, and I think of my dad all the time, so it's a really good thing.'

Meanwhile, Simon has already thought about having more children as he'd like little Eric to have a brother or a sister to play with.

He explained: 'I wouldn't rule out [more children]!'.

Adding: 'Well, I got Squiddly and Diddly, and I couldn't imagine Squiddly or just Diddly...I had a brother when I was younger, so I kind of think it's cool to have two or three... two.'

Lauren has forever secured her place in the harem. Now if she can just have the 2 more that Simon wants, then she will be set for life. I feel sorry for the older son.

Being a dad his way is pretty easy. Keep doing whatever you want and drag your wife and baby along.

It's Soooh obvious Lauren Silverman has been paid to have his baby. I wonder just how much she got paid... Lucky woman....unlucky child to have such a mother. Lauren S. didn't bother to hold her child to feed him which would give that poor baby painful trapped wind. She appears to be a very selfish and cold hearted woman . One of the loveliest, warmest things in life, is to feed a small baby milk. They nestle right into your arms and look straight into your eyes when they are drinking. No doubt Simon has an army of nannies at hand to look after Eric. Hopefully Simon will now realise that it's not just all about money.

I read some time ago a prediction that Simon would have a life changing experience. I guess this is it. Right or wrong a little person is now in the world and life moves on. It is not really for anyone to judge. Aren't there a few quotes in the bible saying 'Judge not lest thou be judged.' 'He who is without sin, cast the first stone' and 'Take the plank out of your own eye before removing a splinter from others'? Simon will have to answer for his actions one day as do we all . He could have had nothing to do physically with Lauren when she told him she was pregnant but he looks to be taking his responsibilities seriously. I hope this has changed him for the better and been the catalyst for him to re-evaluate his life and make it more meaningful. Good luck to them all.

I cant bear to read anything more about this awful couple. She cant even be bothered to hold the baby while feeding him - he is not even 4 weeks old! And her first child long forgotten.

I thinks its terribly sad that Lauren has introduced the baby to everyone, except his new brother. And now shes in the UK it will be even longer until Adam he sees Eric. What utterly selfish people
