Angelina Jolie takes a Maleficent turn in new photoshoot as she admits 'I was very, very moved' by the support she received after double mastectomy

By Daily Mail Reporter

Angelina Jolie was 'very, very moved' by the messages she received after undergoing a double mastectomy.

The Maleficent actress had both breasts removed last year after tests showed she carries the BRCA1 gene, meaning her chances of contracting breast cancer are very high, and she was overwhelmed by the support she was offered after revealing the news.

In a recent interview the 38-year-old mother-of-six admitted: 'I was very, very moved by all the support and kindness from so many people.'

The Sleeping Beauty reboot promises to tell the untold story of Maleficent, who was simply a nemesis in the original animated 1959 Disney film who put Princess Aurora to sleep.

The highly anticipated film is slated for release on May 30 and co-stars Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning and Juno Temple.

In the EW interview Angelina explained why her five-year-old daughter Vivienne was cast to play young Princess Aurora: 'We think it’s fun for our kids to have cameos and join us on set, but not to be actors. That’s not our goal for Brad and I at all. But the other three and four-year-old [performers] wouldn’t come near me. It had to be a child that liked me and wasn’t afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv.'

But her prosthetic cheekbones and horned costume did manage to scare another one of her children: 'When Pax saw me for the first time, he ran away and got upset - and I thought he was kidding, so I was pretending to chase him until I actually found him crying.'

Despite the initial scare, her son did get over it, enough that he and Zahara were extras on set. 'I had to walk by them being very mean,' Angelina explained. 'Of course, I wanted to stop and wink at them.'

The star - who raises six children with partner Brad Pitt - also revealed in the same interview that her surgery last year brought her closer to other people battling health problems as they want to share their stories with her.

She explained: 'Wherever I go, usually I run into women and we talk about health issues, women's issues, breast cancer, ovarian cancer. I've talked to men about their daughters' and wives' health.

'It makes me feel closer to other people who deal with the same things and have either lost their parents or are considering surgeries or wondering about their children.'

Angelina had the genetic test because her mother Marcheline Bertrand died from ovarian cancer in 2007, and the Salt star's results showed she had an 87 per cent chance of developing breast cancer and 50 per cent risk of ovarian cancer.

Honours: The actress received a kiss from Brad at the Oscars after they both won awards

She is also believed to be planning to have her ovaries removed to reduce the cancer risk.

Meanwhile, the actress made an emotional tribute to her late mother during the 86th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The Mr & Mrs Smith star praised Marcheline during a pre-recorded acceptance speech for one of three honorary Oscars which were originally bestowed in November.

Highlighted again at last night's ceremony, her speech - which was broadcast via video link - was so moving that Brad kissed her in a gesture of love and support.

During the speech, Angelina was clearly moved as she said: 'My mother loved art. She loved film,' Angelina said. 'But whenever it had meaning she had a point in telling me that is what a film is for.'

She continued: 'And to stand here today means I did as she asked and if she were alive she would be very proud. So thank you for that.'

After re-watching her speech, the actress was once again moved to the brink of tears - something which was only further inspired by the kiss from husband-to-be, Brad.

While originally receiving the award at the 5th Annual Governors Ball in Hollywood on November 16, Jolie also spoke about being a mother.

'Mad, I'm not gonna cry, I promise. I won't embarrass you,' she told her son. 'You and your brothers and your sisters are my happiness. And there is no greater honor in this world than being your mom.'

She also told told Pitt: 'Your support and your guidance make everything that I do possible.'

When Marcheline - who had been married to Jolie's father, Jon Voight, from 1971-1989 - died from ovarian cancer aged 56 in 2007, it came as a huge loss to the actress, who had much in common with her mother

A witch, playing a witch. No surprises here. She is so boring, and phony. I can't believe how many of you she has duped. When the 'mommie dearest' books come out, you'll all realize what a bunch of idiots you have been.

Angelina can do no wrong in my book. She is a true inspiration to women who are dealing with health issues. While I know a lot of women who aren't famous goes through what she has every single day, she has brought the issue out into the open and definitely shone a light onto being open and unafraid to talk about your health. She is also an amazing actress and I know that she will do Maleficent justice! It's cute that her and Brad like to have the kids as extras in their movies too...makes it fun for them and involves them in their parents lives instead of them just being stuck with nannies in hotel rooms!

I see Lady Gaga scrambling around in search of her horn implants as I write this. Oh well, hard to make Angelina unattractive, cheek horns or not. So beautiful.
