Malaysia Airlines has released details about the flight crew and passenger load aboard MH370, the Boeing 777-200 that disappeared while serving the Kuala Lumpur-Beijing route.
The aircraft was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, confirms MAS. It corrects the number of Chinese nationals aboard the aircraft to 152 plus one infant – an earlier Xinhua report put the number of Chinese nationals at 160.
The flight was a codeshare with China Southern Airlines.
The captain of the aircraft, Zaharie Ahmad Shah, is 53 with total flight time of 18,365 hours. He joined MAS in 1981. The first office, Fariq Ab. Hamid, is 27 and has 2,763 hours of flight time. He joined the company in 2007. Both men are Malaysians.
There were fourteen different nationalities on the aircraft. The second and third most-represented nationalities were Malaysian (38) and Indonesian (12).
The fate of the aircraft is still unclear. Social media is abuzz with rumours and speculation, but MAS or national authorities have yet to provide concrete information about the situation.
China, Malaysia, and Vietnam appear to have activated search and rescue assets to locate the missing aircraft, which bears registration 9M-MRO.
