He had everything pinned on a place in the next round, but while Femi Santiago failed to beat dualist Iesha on Saturday evening;s The Voice UK, he melted Kylie Minogue's heart with a serenaded plea.

The singers were given ballad Stop, Look, Listen To Your Heart - a song originally performed by Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye and Femi admitted he needed a pass to the next round in a bid to provide for his family after a difficult start in life.

'My family, my career, the rest of my life is riding on this,' said the Londoner, who endured six months of homelessness when he was a teenager.

But while he pulled it out of the bag on Saturday evening, it was Iesher who won through, leaving Femi at the mercy of the final steal.

Urged on by mentor will, he floored her by serenading a high pitched falsetto littered plea.

It was enough for Kylie to decide she'd found her 'one' - and the Londoner made it through, much to the delight of the studio audience.

'I was always gonna turn for you,' she said. 'The serenade was just the icing on top.'

Earlier that evening Kylie, the only coach with a remaining steal, admitted she was looking for someone with a sprinkling of ‘magic.’

But it was Team Ricky kicking things off, with rocker Jamie Lovatt going head to head with Chris Royal on a version of Adele classic Rolling In The Deep.

Kaiser Chiefs star Ricky was assisted by up and coming star Katy B during rehearsals – and she was impressed by what she saw.

‘They both gave every lost drop of energy,’ she said, admitting the experience was ‘intense.’

On Saturday evening, the vocal duel was no less impressive, with Ricky admitting it was ‘amazing stuff.’

‘I wasn’t expecting the falsetto,’ an impressed Tom Jones told soul singer Chris.’ It would be hard for me to make a decision so I’m glad I don’t have to.’

That responsibly fell at Ricky’s feet, and the rocker chose Chris over fellow front-man Jamie.

‘You get me every time,’ he told him, giving the Manchester based singer a hug.

Jamie still had a chance to get through on a steal, and he was given the opportunity to give Kylie, the only coach with that option available to use, a last minute pitch.

‘If you want the rock God you saw the first time round you can take me,’ he said – but it wasn’t enough, and Kylie passed.

The Australian singer was next, and she paired 16-year-olds Rachel and Amelia, charging them with the daunting responsibility of facing off to Jay-Z hit Holy Grail.

Kylie was joined by Scissor Sisters star Jake Shears during rehearsals, and he admitted they did a ‘fantastic job with some difficult material.’

On the night they pulled it off, turning in an accomplished performance that left the coaches full of praise and Kylie reluctant to make a choice.

But ultimately she chose an emotional Rachel – and with no steals on offer Amelia headed for the exit.

‘It’s really hard but Amelia has that something,’ she said later.

Will.i.am opted for Burlesque dancer Kiki De Ville and small town boy James Byron – a singer with a memorable look and sound.

The two vocalists were performing Patti Smith power ballad When The Night, and its demanding vocal range, delivered masterfully by both performers, left the coaches speechless.

‘That was fantastic, that was flawless,’ raved will. ‘You guys were immaculate – proud of you guys.’

‘I can’t split you apart vocally, but if I had to choose between you then I might go with James,’ offered Ricky.

It was a hard choice for will, who admitted they were amongst the ‘best singers’ on his team, and he stunned the audience by unexpectedly walking off stage and out of the studio to ‘clear his head.’

He returned minutes later, choosing James and leaving Kiki facing a potential steal from Kylie, who subsequently passed.

The singer was in tears, but she insisted her time on The Voice UK had been ‘incredible.’

‘This will not be the last you see of me,’ she warned.

Next up was Tom Jones, and the Welsh legend opted the pair Amy Winehouse fan Melissa and Vicky the younger sister of McFly star Danny Jones.

With support from Tinie Tempah, the singer offered them Motown hit You Keep Me Hanging On by The Supremes - but early rehearsals were not convincing, and he was forced to scrap the track and replace it with something a little more contemporary.

He opted for Pink song Just Give Me A Reason, and after a nervy dual Tom was faced with a difficult decision - but he chose a stunned Melissa.

'I kinda gave up singing and this has kick-started it for me, but whatever happens I'm still gonna continue singing' she said, shortly before Kylie passed on a potential steal.

'I'm glad you've gained so much confidence from this experience,' said the Australian singer.

Ricky's second dual came in the form of trainee solicitor Miles and judo expert Max, who were given Beatles classic Eleanor Rigby.

Worryingly, Miles was unfamiliar with the song and struggled to master the lyrics during piano rehearsals.

But the onstage rehearsals were more promising, and Max admitted with Miles on form he was actually 'a little worried.'

Despite his concerns it was the Scot who won through on the night, leaving Miles heading for the exit as hard to please Kylie once again turned down the opportunity to steal.

'I didn't feel like I could take Miles any further in the competition,' she said., 'He's not my one.'

Will's next pairing was Sophie and Cherri with a version of Love Cats by The Cure.

'It was two incredible performances, and if I had a steal I'd take one of the, I wouldn't care who you put through, Ricky told will after the performance.

'I wanna work with both of you guys,' said will. 'But moving forward for tonight it would be...Sophistication.'

'I don't know what to say,' said Sophie as will gave her a welcoming hug.

Again Kylie turned down the steal, but Cherri was gracious in defeat as she exited the stage, telling Sophie she 'better do well.'

The singer opted for James and Joe for her next dual - a performance of Counting Stars by OneRepublic.

Both singer's were nervous about the battle because they'd developed a close friendship during their time on the show, and Kylie admitted she had to ' go with her heart' on the night and 'make a decision.'

That she did, opting to save Jamie - who immediately gave his pal a hug.

Kylie was left in tears after admitting the performance left them 'shaking with excitement.'

'It was horrible to have to chose either one of them,' she said later. 'I just feel Jamie was that little bit more secure, but I'm just splitting hairs with both of them.'

Tom was next with Laverne and Georgia.

They were given 22 by Taylor Swift, and Georgia admitted there was no love lost between her and her rival ahead of rehearsals.

'I think it would be harder if we were friends,' she said. 'But I don't think we would be bothered if either of us went home.'

She also admitted that performing the youthful song was hard because, when she was 22, she was rebuilding her life following the collapse of her first marriage.

Tom opted to save Georgia, and she raced across to thank Tom without bothering to acknowledge Laverne.

Kylie's final pairing was Jade and twin sisters Lauren and Kimberley - AKA Gemyni - with Britney Spears classic Baby One More Time, and the singer wanted them to get in touch with their 'inner divas' by dancing round the piano during rehearsals.

'That song launched a massive career, and it will do the same for whoever she (Kylie) puts through,' said Ricky following the performance on Saturday evening.

'I know you all want it so badly, you both have serious fan clubs already... the winner of this battle is Jade,' said Kylie.

For his final dual Tom selected former Troy singer Gary and young vocalist Elesha - an old hand having previously performed on the show in 2013, albeit with a radically different hairstyle.

The singers performed Caught Up by Usher, and Tom was faced with another tough choice after they turned in an impressive contest.

'The winner of this battle is... Gary Poole,' he said after a moment of indecision.

Ricky's last pairing was Jazz Bates-Chambers and Lucy Marie Closier - a self-confessed ;'huge' Katy B fan - and she was quick to offer her idol a gushing compliment.

But Jazz wasn't impressed, saying later: 'I didn't think it was that sort of competition.'

After performing Bruno Mars classic Grenade Ricky went for the precocious young singer, who edged ahead on the night.

Jazz-Bates Chambers has shown her true colours by getting bitchy over the other girl simply for professing her admiration for Katy B. For that reason alone I won't be supporting her.

Kylie Minogue on this show is just embarrassing. You're a 40 something year old woman not a teenager! Bring back Jessie J!!

Don't get me wrong I much prefer Kylie to the unbearable Jessie J but I have to admit (although this maybe an unpopular opinion) I have definitely gone off her a little since watching her on this programme. Yes, I still like her and she still comes across very genuine and sweet but, to me, she has come across a little attention seeking and likes to try and make herself the main focus every time the judges comment after every act. Although this could just be me....
