Elisabeth Moss poses topless for racy New York magazine cover as she opens about 'traumatic and horrible' marriage to Fred Armisen

She plays buttoned up Peggy Olsen on Mad Men but Elisabeth Moss is barely recognisable on the cover of New York magazine.

The 31-year-old actress posed topless, with a pair of overalls barely protecting her modesty, as she opened up about her eight month marriage to Fred Armisen in 2010, calling it 'extremely traumatic'.

With tousled hair and a huge smile on the cover, she told the magazine: 'It was extremely traumatic and awful and horrible. At the same time, it turned out for the best. I'm glad that I'm not there. I'm glad that it didn't happen when I was 50.

'I'm glad I didn't have kids. And I got that out of the way. Hopefully. Like, that's probably not going to

happen again.'

Moss - whose breasts were clearly visible beneath the dungarees - also admitted that she was too young to wed, saying: 'Looking back, I feel like I was really young, and at the time I didn’t think that I was that young.'

The couple met when Moss' Mad Men co-star Jon Hamm hosted Saturday Night Live in 2009.

Armisen was the second longest running cast member of the show when he left in 2013, just behind Seth Meyers.

Fred  - who is now the band leader for Late Night With Seth Meyers - previously told Howard Stern on his Sirius XM radio show that the spit was entirely his fault.

When Stern said, She must f***ing hate you,' Armisen replied: 'I imagine so.

'I think I was a terrible husband, I think I'm a terrible boyfriend. I feel bad for everyone I’ve ever gone out with.

'I want it all - fast,' he explained: 'I want to be married . . . the amount of girls I've lived with right away . . . and then somewhere around a year, two years, I get freaked out.'

Success: While her marriage may have failed, Elisabeth's career is going from strength to strength as her Mad Men character Peggy takes centre stage

And Fred revealed he tried to make her break up with him, saying: '[It's] awful . . . you sort of withdraw and you sort of get into all the things you think make you weird, like "I'm really into playing XBOX . . [or my] record collection."

'You sort of disappear into the things that you think are just your hobbies.'

Fred was previously married to Sally Timms from 1998 to 2004.

Great actress, but so average=looking for Hollywood. I just don't see the appeal. She should thank her lucky stars they would even look her way in La La land. Maybe in person she is stunning but highly doubt it.

She doesn't need stunning looks to be a great actress. Most actresses in Hollywood are such clones of each other I often have to do a double take at their photos. Elisabeth was fantastic in the detective drama Top of the Lake recently, I doubt an ultra glamorous actress would have the talent to pull her part off. I am sure she will become a great character actress as she gets older. People like Jennifer Aniston and her contemporaries just play the same old parts with the names changed.

Sorry, Horatio Street + Shannon. I am not the actress, just a fellow idiot, like both of you, with an opinion. I think I am entitled to feel a certain way about someone's looks. I think we all do that from time to time. No harm meant. Just a very plain-looking gal. That is all. XOXO
