The day before, Grant Gustin was seen filming a scene in which he escapes the wreckage of an upturned vehicle.

And on Monday, the 24-year-old actor was facing more danger while on the set of The Flash - the new DC Comics TV series in which he stars - in Vancouver, Canada.

This time, as the car exploded, engulfed in flames, Grant seemed to make a great leap to safety as he flew through the air and landed on the grass.

The actor, best known for playing Sebastian Smythe in Glee, was also filmed as he broke into a swift run, as the superhero he portrays is known for his incredible speed.

He was not in costume – instead sporting a thick black jacket, jeans, and brown trainers.

Blood marred his forehead and hand, but it was just the work of the show's make-up department.

Grant stars as Barry Allen, a scientist who becomes a superhero speedster after a freak lab accident, in the series that will air on the CW.

The new show gives Gustin his first role as leading man after a series of smaller TV appearances in Glee, 90210 and Arrow – another DC series in which he played Allen and his alter ego, The Flash, for two episodes.

But while comic book fans eagerly await the spin-off, written by Greg Berlanti and directed by David Nutter, critics have aired doubts regarding Gustin’s abilities as a lead following his two episode appearance in Arrow.

'Gustin doesn't come across as leading man material,' said IGNs Jessie Schedeen. 'His awkward bumbling intertwining with (Arrow character) Felicity's was cute, but rarely did I get the impression that this character could or should be given his own spinoff series.'

The Flash will also star Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh and John Wesley Shipp – who originally played the character in a previous series, aired in 1990 on CBS.

The superhero's outfit will be designed by Colleen Atwood, the designer responsible for creating costumes on Arrow.
