Chezza's having a shake-up: Amid return to X Factor Cheryl Cole pitches new format suggestion to mentor one person from each category

She might’ve only just announced her come-back to the X Factor, but it looks like Cheryl Cole is determined to make her mark on the new series.

The Sun have reported Cheryl is keen for the show to have a major overhaul, involving getting rid of the original group categories and dividing the contestants in a different style.

The 30-year-old believes judges ‘should mentor one girl, one boy, a group and one person from the overs category’.

A source said: ‘Cheryl has been very vocal about ideas and changes that could liven things up.’

Another added: ‘It’s far too early to say what, if any, changes might be made – all aspects of the format are being looked at to make the best show possible.’

Only last week did X Factor boss Simon Cowell and Cheryl, once dubbed nation’s sweetheart, reveal they were both returning to the show.

And it’s said she’s being paid a cool £1.5 to return to the ITV show as a judge for the talent competition – a lot more than the meagre-looking £500k it’s reported Kylie Minogue receives for The Voice.

The cheeky Geordie singer told fans it was Simon Cowell's constant begging that convinced her to return to The X Factor.

In the pair's first joint television interview since Cheryl's comeback was revealed on Monday, the 30-year-old joked it was the music mogul's (crocodile) tears that finally caused her to give in to his pleas.

Speaking to Dan Wootton on Daybreak on Wednesday morning, Cheryl said: 'There's only so much begging one can take. It's not nice to see a grown man cry, so I finally succumbed.’

Cheryl was even happy to laugh off about her infamous purple and orange outfit as she joked: ‘I considered range and red for today and was going to go with super big huge hair, but I’ll save it for the first show.’

Simon confirmed that Dermot O'Leary will be back as the show's presenter and that auditions would once again start in a closed room before moving on to the arena stage.

MailOnline have contacted Cheryl's representative for comment.

I think the best 'shake-up' would be to mentor no-one and dissolve the X-Factor all together. It's long past it's peak and even when it was enjoying ratings success, the majority of acts were mediocre at best. Talk about flogging a dead horse.
