MONEY NEWS & ADVICE
Big Brother in my car saves me cash - but it comes at cost of motoring freedom
The telematics black box is useful for young motorists like Sean Halpin (pictured). desperate to cut sky-high insurance so they can afford to drive. Annual premiums can be reduced by 20 per cent. But the savings come at a cost - not only must you take more care with how you drive but you must stick to tough limits set by your insurer that can then charge you for mistakes behind the wheel even if not your fault.
JEFF PRESTRIDGE: More in hope than expectation, here are five Budget wishes the Chancellor should grant
More in hope than in expectation am I presenting Chancellor George Osborne with my wish list for Wednesday's Budget. WISH 1: An overhaul of stamp duty for home buyers, bringing to an end the ridiculous situation where if you buy a home for £250,000 (the average house price in England and Wales is £258,000), you pay stamp duty of 1 per cent, a total of £2,500.
SIMON WATKINS: Morrisons declares supermarket price war - but faces rout if rivals choose to hold their ground
There have been so many phoney supermarket price wars that shoppers could be forgiven for shrugging sceptically at last week's latest outbreak of hostilities. Morrisons’ opening barrage - saying it would spend £1billion cutting prices over three years - sent shares falling across the sector as analysts predicted that this war would be real and the first casualty would be profits.
Cash - or shares? Dig out the best Isa deals: For the top rates you'll need to take a fix or be ready for risk
Cash was once king for Isa buyers but this year’s pauper rates are pushing it off its throne. The best rate you can find on a cash Isa is 3 per cent, fixed for five years, from Skipton Building Society. The top instant access option on the tax-friendly savings accounts is 1.75 per cent from minnow Stafford Railway Building Society, but it won’t accept transfers.
SMALL BUSINESS NEWS AND ADVICE
Sky-rocketing rents and rock-bottom mortgage rates make it £1,500 a year cheaper to own your own house

The average monthly cost of owning such a house stood at £645 in December, Halifax said, which is 16 per cent lower than the £769 typical monthly rent on a property of the same type.
Budget 2014: Osborne has said the Treasury is 'hungry for ideas' on how to help smaller firms. So what have they suggested?
The Chancellor has already said he wants to address key issues facing the UK’s small firms when he delivers the penultimate Budget before the election this Wednesday. Speaking at the Federation of Small Businesses policy conference earlier this year, he told company bosses the Treasury was ‘hungry for your ideas about what we can do to help small businesses’. Here is a round-up of ideas business groups have put to the Chancellor George Osborne.

What would you do if you stood in the Chancellor’s shoes? I’d take an axe to Britain’s bad taxes – and by accident or design we’ve ended up with a lot of those. EasyBus, which operates a fleet of 50 orange buses, saw turnover fall but profits rise in the year to September 30, 2013.
